Yara Zaya and Jovi Dufrens are newer to the 90 Day Fiancé universe than most couples, but their story has already captured the attention of many fans of the reality series. Yara moved from the Ukraine to New Orleans to be with Jovi, but he didn’t seem ready to let go of his partying ways once she got there. It caused some tension for the couple, especially after learning they were expecting.
Another problem facing Yara and Jovi is his family. His family doesn’t mince words when it comes to their suspicions about Yara. “Because everybody from Ukraine wants to come to America,” Jovi’s mom, Gwen, quips during the Feb. 14 mid-season episode, saying Ukrainian women just used men to get Green Cards (per ET).
“I don’t like that so much hearing because it’s about my country,” Yara replies. “It’s kind of same stereotypes like many people think that Americans are so stupid.”
Yara opened up about what was keeping her from going back to the Ukraine
As if this wasn’t bad enough for Yara, Jovi’s parents planned a very casual engagement party with the couple and 60 of their closest friends (via TV Insider). Jovi’s not being too attentive throughout the whole ordeal, which leaves Yara understandably distressed. “If I wasn’t pregnant, I’d already be back in the Ukraine,” she snapped at him during a heated discussion.
Jovi’s parents aren’t concerned with how their behavior is impacting the couple, however. They’re more concerned with Yara taking Jovi from them. “She wants to go to another country and move Jovi to another country, so that’s a problem for us. Also, in the future, if they have kids, I mean, this could be hard for us to see our grandkids. … We may lose our son,” Jovi’s dad revealed (per ET).
We aren’t 100% sure what’s been going on with the couple between the time the episode aired and now, but we do know Yara and Jovi have been spotted in Miami with their baby girl (per TV Show Ace). Hopefully the family has found a respectful way to move forward.
