Bindi Irwin , the 21-year-old daughter of the late conservationist and TV star Steve Irwin, has said her father will be playing a role on her wedding day.
Back in July, Bindi got engaged to her childhood sweetheart Chandler Powell.
The pair had dated for six years after they met at Australia Zoo in 2013.
American wakeboarder Chandler proposed on Bindi's birthday back in the same location he met her.
Bindi has spoken to US Weekly about her hopes to honour Steve on the big day.
She said: "I really wanted Dad to be a big part of the day, so I’m excited to be able to incorporate him throughout the ceremony and the reception, and I think it’s going to be really special because I feel like his spirit lives on in us.
"It’s going to be a celebration of family and friends, our wildlife, and I think that night, it’ll be about our lives together and the joining of families. It’s going to be beautiful."
Speaking to the Sunshine Coast Daily, she said: “I do really wish that dad was here to be able to celebrate with us as a family.
“I think in some ways he is and his spirit lives on in everything that we do, and I always feel closest to dad here at Australia Zoo.”
As part of her wedding plans, Bindi hopes to have brother Robert, 15, walk her down the aisle in place of her dad, and her mum Terri is expected to step in for Steve for the traditional father-daughter dance.
It was recently revealed that there had been strains in the family since Steve died – but that a gagging order had prevented them from speaking out about it.
The Daily Mail Australia reported that Steve's father Bob said that he didn't expect to be invited to Bindi's wedding.
His older sister Joy then spoke out, saying she could do so now that a non-disclosure agreement had been lifted.
She said that Steve's wife Terri had begun to distance herself and her kids Bindi and Robert from the rest of Steve's family.
In 2016, her husband Frank was even walked out of Australia Zoo, which he once help to run, by Terri.
Bindi’s dad, Steve Irwin, was famous for his wildlife TV shows where he would wrestle crocodiles.
He died in 2006 when he was fatally stabbed in the heart by a stringray.
Bindi followed in his footsteps, becoming a wildlife conservationist and TV personality.
Surrounded by her family and friends, the moment was captured by Bindi’s brother, Robert, who was in on the surprise.
She wrote “On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life.
Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness.”
She continued “I’m so looking forwarding to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love. — Now let’s get married already!”
Chandler also commemorated the day, writing on Instagram "Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo.
"I immediately fell head over heels for her kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light. Proposing in her very favorite place in the zoo, surrounded by animals, seemed like the perfect way to embark on this incredible new chapter in our lives.
He concluded “Bee, I love you more than anything in this world and I always will. Happy Birthday."
