Adil Ray, 47, made a joke on Good Morning Britain earlier this morning which mocked Piers Morgan for exiting the show in a dramatic fashion. Piers, 56, responded by blasting him on Twitter for disrespecting him in light of the ratings he had garnered during his stint on the programme.

The journalist also accused Adil of “helping to destroy” the ratings Piers had built up before his sudden departure earlier this year.

Taking to Twitter, Piers shared an article about Adil’s swipe at him with his 7.9 million followers.

He captioned the tweet: “Hmmm. Given how Mr Ray has helped destroy GMB’s ratings since I left, if I were him I’d probably avoid mocking the guy who took them to record heights…”

It is true that in June, the ITV show’s viewing figures slumped from 1.9m to 450k after Piers’ exit back in March.

However, one month later on June 28, Susanna Reid celebrated ratings peaking at 1.2 million viewers, which was a 20% improvement from the same time last year.

The Birmingham Live article Piers referenced on his Twitter feed, which was titled “Adil Ray issues swipe at Piers Morgan on ITV Good Morning Britain”, included a clip from GMB capturing the moment when Adil mocked the former host.

Adil and co-host Susanna Reid were speaking with political journalist Kevin McGuire about the issues surrounding taking your baby into work.

This came after Labour MP Stella Creasy was reprimanded for bringing her three-month-old child into the House of Commons with her.

However, as the conversation went on, Kevin asked whether Susanna would have taken her young children to work with her to present GMB.

At this point, Adil chimed in, saying: “You’ve presented with some babies over the years haven’t you?

“Who stormed out and had a bit of a tantrum?” he continued.

At this point the studio erupted into laughter, with even Susanna allowing herself a brief chuckle before swiftly moving the conversation on.

Adil’s comment was pointedly made at Piers, who exited Good Morning Britain after refusing to apologise for not believing Meghan Markle’s claims from her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Upon seeing Piers’ tweet firing back at Adil for the comment, Twitter users seemed split on the issue.

Some agreed with Piers, including Shaun H, who wrote: “I have not watched GMB since you left, I agree with you Piers, sadly missed young man.” (sic)

“Miss you Piers not afraid to give an opinion that everyone agrees with now it’s all wishy washy woke,” commented Paul Tayor.

“I can’t watch it when he is on, he irritates me. Often looks as though he irritates Susannah as well,” added Misswarny.

However, others thought Piers was being unreasonable, including Peterbojangles, who commented: “Difference is Adil is likeable.”

KatieJ added: “The viewing figs have been over 1M many times since you left but it’s sweet you still think it’s all about you!

“It also took you having a melt down/walk out for more to switch on the day you’re on about. No one’s needed to since,it was a good show with you & is without you tbf.”

“I think COVID and the fact people were stuck in had a part to play in those record heights as did your colleagues,” added Chris Jones.
