Lorraine Kelly appeared to be baffled by the latest reports about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on her ITV show this morning. It has been claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle turned down a title for their son Archie because they were worried it would lead to bullying.

Speaking on the matter today, Lorraine said: “Now I just don’t understand this.”

“This is surreal news today, but it is being claimed that Harry and Meghan rejected the title the Earl of Dumbarton for their son Archie because it contained the word ‘dumb’ in it.

“I mean come on, I cannot believe that that’s true.

“I mean there’s dumb and there’s dumb. That can’t be right. No absolutely not,” she continued.

The Sussexes were worried that Archie would be picked on over the word “dumb,” which is a slang term for “daft”, it has been claimed.

A Telegraph source said: “They didn’t like the idea of Archie being called the Earl of Dumbarton because it began with the word ‘dumb’. They were worried about how that might look.”

“It wasn’t just Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls, it also bothered Harry,” another insider claimed.

However, royal author Robert Jobson pointed out that Harry is already the Earl of Dumbarton.

It is his title when he is in Scotland, he explained on Twitter.

Elsewhere in the programme, Lorraine made a dig at the royal when questioning how long his father Prince Charles would continue to support him financially.

It comes after Clarence House accounts revealed the Prince of Wales had gifted a “substantial sum” to the couple.

This seems to contradict what Harry said during his interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

At the time, the royal said that his family “literally cut me off financially” in the first quarter of 2020.

Sharing her thoughts on the matter, mum-of-one Lorraine said: “Well, these claims have now been cast into doubt according to newly published royal accounts.

“Prince Charles did actually continue to fund him after he stepped down as a senior royal and, to be honest, how long do you keep funding your kids? I mean, he’s in his late thirties!”

A senior Clarence House spokesperson said Prince Charles allocated the money to help with the couple’s transition after stepping down as senior royals.

It confirmed that they were now “financially independent”.

The report also included a £2.4 million payment from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to reimburse the Sovereign Grant for the money used to refurbish their home on the Windsor Estate.

The sum is thought to include 18 months rent in addition to the work done at Frogmore Cottage.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have paid £2.4 million and we’re satisfied that, on the basis of that payment, it satisfies all their current obligations,” The Mirror reports a senior royal source as saying.

The period property’s renovation was completed in April 2019, months before they moved to North America.
