Jay Leno was rushed to a Los Angeles burn center with “severe” injuries to his face following a car fire, but the comedian said he’ll be OK after a few weeks. “Entertainment Tonight” reported that the comedian suffered third-degree burns in a blast in the garage of his Los Angeles home. On Nov. 16, Dr. Peter Grossman said the funnyman was undergoing multiple skin graft surgeries and receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy twice a day. Jay told TMZ he was fixing a fuel line on his 1907 White Steam Car in his famous garage. A fuel leak occurred in the midst of this, causing gasoline to be sprayed on Jay’s face and hands. Almost instantly, a spark triggered an explosion, setting the comedian on fire. A friend had been with Jay, and that the pal jumped on the former “Tonight Show” host and smothered the flames. It’s unclear how many surgeries will be necessary to treat Jay’s injuries. “It’s too early to tell what’s going to happen,” the doctor told “ET,” adding that permanent damage is “always possible in burn injuries, especially when you have significant damage from the situation as he did.”
“Traditional marriage” comments backlash
Candace Cameron Bure is defending herself and her “values” after claiming the Great American Family network — where she serves as the chief creative officer — would only feature “traditional marriage,” not same-sex couples. After her comment, several in Hollywood ripped the “Full House” star, with Hilarie Burton calling Candace a “bigot.” JoJo Siwa called Candace’s comments “genuinely embarrassing.” Amid the backlash, Candace said, “I am a devoted Christian. Which means that I believe that every human being bears the image of God. Because of that, I am called to love all people, and I do. If you know me, you know that I am a person who loves fiercely and indiscriminately. My heart yearns to build bridges and bring people one step closer to God, to love others well, and to simply be a reflection of God’s huge love for all of us.” Candace also said the “media” is to blame for the controversy.
Celebrities had some things to say after Donald Trump announced his latest run for president of the United States on Nov. 15. “Trump is the definition of ‘fake populist elite.’ He has done nothing for working class people or America except to take the GOP down,” Mark Ruffalo tweeted. Meghan McCain wrote, “The whole vibe is giving Uncle Rico talking to Napoleon about what a great football player he used to be in high school.” Even Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, said, “I honestly believe that we’ll have better choices come 2024.”
What a mess! On Nov. 15, Taylor Swift diehards reportedly crashed Ticketmaster during the Verified Fan presale. Ticketmaster, for the record, claimed its site didn’t crash but acknowledged there were some “intermittent issues.” Fans immediately voiced their frustrations on Twitter as they waited in queues or got kicked out of Ticketmaster sales. “There has been historically unprecedented demand with millions showing up” to buy tickets for Taylor’s “The Eras Tour,” a Ticketmaster rep said. Fans argued — probably rightfully so — that the ticketing website should have been better prepared for a deluge of Taylor fans. Adding to the pain, Ticketmaster announced on Nov. 17 that it had canceled the public on-sale for the tour set to begin on Nov. 18 and essentially acknowledged that the site crashed. In addition, Tennessee’s Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced plans to investigate Ticketmaster for antitrust violations.
Pete Davidson has done it again. On Nov. 15, the former “Saturday Night Live” star was photographed getting cozy with Emily Ratajkowski in New York City. Earlier in the week, rumors circulated claiming the two had begun dating, but the photos seemed to prove the point. Paparazzi captured the comedian and the model hugging in a hallway after he let her into a building in Brooklyn the night before his 29th birthday.
The end had to come eventually. On Nov. 17, Ellen Pompeo officially announced that she’s leaving “Grey’s Anatomy” after 19 seasons. This isn’t exactly news to fans, as a teaser for the upcoming “Grey’s Anatomy” midseason premiere appears to show Ellen’s character, Dr. Meredith Grey, saying her goodbyes. “I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons! Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!” she said on Instagram before hinting that she may make a cameo or two in the future. “I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude XoE.”
Denise Richards was the victim of a road rage incident in which a man opened fire on the truck she was riding in. A rep for the “Wild Things” star said Denise was in the passenger seat of a truck being driven by her husband, Aaron Phypers, on Nov. 14, when a man in a different vehicle shot at them. Denise and Aaron were headed to Popsicle Studio but were having trouble finding the place, which apparently irritated the driver behind them. TMZ reported that the driver was “shouting at them while trying to squeeze in front of them.” Aaron, reports claim, let the driver pass. However, after doing so, the impatient driver opened fire on Aaron’s truck, hitting the back of it with a bullet. No one was injured in the gunfire, but Denise said it was the “most terrifying situation [she’s] ever been in.”
