Jennifer Lopez is “super excited” that she and fellow Latina artist Shakira will be taking the stage together at the Super Bowl 2020 halftime show.
“I am so excited that they picked two strong women, both Latinas,” she told a crowd at the launch of her new perfume, “Promise,” on Thursday night. “I think they really wanted to make a statement with that and I’m really happy to be part of that new movement of inclusivity and diversity and embracing women.”
News broke earlier on Thursday that the powerhouse musicians would be taking the stage.
“It’s a huge platform, a big stage to perform on, one of the biggest shows of the year,” the 50-year-old added. “Every artist dreams of doing it.”
The announcement comes not only on the same day as her new fragrance’s debut, but amid Oscar buzz for her new film “Hustlers.” She also recently wrapped up her It’s My Party national tour celebrating her 50th birthday.
“I love performing … We had an amazing tour this summer so I feel really in shape for a show right now,” she said.
The “I’m Real” singer said she and Shakira are “over the moon about performing together.
“We just want to bring our brand of what we do and our music and our celebration and our culture to that stage for those 15 minutes, it’s going to be amazing, can’t wait.”
The Super Bowl is set for February 2, 2020, in Miami.
