Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway, 54, won a National Television Award at the star-studded award ceremony which took place at the O2 Arena last night. The TV presenter picked up the Authored Documentary award for her programme Finding Derek, which followed her husband Derek Draper’s recovery from COVID-19.

The mum-of-two took to social media this morning to thank everyone who had voted and shared a picture of her husband.

The couple, who have been married for 16 years, could be seen speaking to each other via FaceTime.

In her accompanying caption, Kate praised the other nominees in her category, who had all opened up for their candid documentaries.

“Wow. Thank you so so much,” she wrote, in view of her one million followers.

“Have been in such an emotional daze all night I failed to get a single photo of me or the brilliant @flickerproductions team who made #findingderek @theofficalntas!!

“But maybe this is the photo you most wanted to see anyway – Me FaceTiming derek (via Darcey’s phone!) to tell him we had won!”(sic) the ITV star added.

“From him and from the bottom of our family’s hearts THANKYOU.

“For all who are struggling on and holding on to hope – this is for you.

“And to all the other wonderful nominations in the category – @marcusrashford @katieprice @romankemp @robburrowmndfundraiser_ proud to be among you and I salute your brilliance & bravery xxx.”

Many took to the comments section of her post to send her love and to congratulate Kate on her award.

“So thrilled you won,” wrote fellow TV star Amanda Holden.

Lorraine Kelly, Zoe Ball, Richard Arnold, and Gaby Roslin all posted red hearts.

“His eyes say it all! So happy for you,” added GMB co-star Alex Beresford.

Following the late night, Kate had to get up bright and early this morning to present this morning’s Good Morning Britain with Martin Lewis.

One the show, she thanked viewers for their support.

“This is the National Television Award,” Kate said, holding up the award, “Thank you so much.”

“This is for everyone really because I think the reason why perhaps it did do well was because everyone’s had a slice, haven’t they?

“Everyone’s got a Derek in their life or a Billy or a Darcey, or has lost someone, or in mourning.

“And hopefully this is for everybody that’s been going through the pandemic and let’s all keep going and celebrating the joy,” she said.

In an update on his health, she went on to speak about his slow road to recovery.

“He is free of the virus, and has been for a long time, but the damage that has been inflicted on his organs and his body, that even though he is still with us and at home, the recovery is very slow.”
