Lorraine Kelly, 61, was back on screens this morning with the latest edition of her chat show. However, many viewers were left gobsmacked when the presenter commented on how we’re becoming “a nation of fatsos”, in an interview with fitness guru Joe Wicks, 34.

Lorraine was talking to Joe this morning about his work to keep people fit with online videos, when she made the comments.

During their conversation, she said: “It’s so important, we are fast becoming a nation of fatsos and we really have to do something about it.

“Because when you are overweight, loads and loads of different illnesses and diseases can then attack you.

“So it’s all about keeping yourself healthy and keeping yourself safe.”

Joe replied to the Scottish presenter, adding what the issues are.

He said: “There’s two factors, the physical health, with diabetes and obesity, we’ve got issues there.

“But then I think at this moment in time, we have to be thinking about our mental health and the effect exercise has on your mood, your energy, that’s the true motivation.

“When you exercise to feel good… then the physical transformation comes.”

However, many viewers were left shocked by Lorraine’s wording and took to Twitter to voice their opinions about it.

One wrote: “@reallorrain (sic) not sure that was a good idea, Fatsos, really. #lorraine @GMB @ITV.”

While another added: “Ironic of #lorraine campaigning be kind then calls people ‘fatsos’ on live television. #unbelievable.”

“Perches (sic) be kind then calls everyone fatso’s any need really? #lorraine”, added a third.

Another viewer waded in on the saga, writing: “Be kind your all fatso’s (sic) #lorraine.”

“#Lorraine a nation of of (sic) fatsos! Nice motivation from #lorrainekelly”, a fifth viewer penned.

Another of Lorraine’s viewers continued: “Did Lorraine just say we’re vastly becoming a nation of fatso’s?? (sic) Is that allowed??”

However, not everyone was against her comments with one writing: “Lorraine Kelly slammed after saying ‘we’re becoming nation of fatsos’, but it’s the TRUTH!!”

This isn’t the first time this week viewers have been left confused by the presenter’s behaviour.

During a bizarre interview with YouTuber KSI, she was branded as acting strangely.

This is because she was seen yawning, swatting away flies and standing up to shake off a leg cramp.

Some were left wondering if this could be a prank from Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, which Lorraine herself teased by adding all would be revealed about the moment.

Lorraine airs on weekdays from 9am on ITV.
