Love Island couple Maura Higgins, 28, and Curtis Pritchard, 23, have broken their silence and responded to rumours that they knew each other before they went into the villa for this year’s reality series.
Reports previously stated the couple would “regularly see one another” on the set of the Irish version of Strictly Come Dancing, called Dancing With The Stars Ireland, because Curtis worked on the show and Maura worked for the show's brand ambassador, Bellamianta.
A judge on the Dancing With The Stars, Brian Redmond, told The Mirror: “I believe Maura had been out a few times to watch the show and apparently she and Curtis had cast eyes at each other across a busy dance floor years ago.
“She knows the show and being with Curtis she obviously knows what it involves. It would be great to have her on but probably not this year.”
Maura and Curtis have since set the record straight in their first joint interview since leaving the Love Island villa in July.
Speaking to Holly Willoughby, 38, and Philip Scofield, 57, on the This Morning sofa, Curtis insisted they had “never met” – despite him sliding into the Irish beauty’s DMs before the show.
The couple were quizzed about if they knew one another when Curtis was working in Ireland on Dancing With The Stars, to which they both replied a firm “no”.
Curtis added: “We will have been in the same building but never saw her,” while the brunette said they had “never bumped into each other”.
But, the happy pair did have a connection outside the villa, as Curtis has slid into Maura’s DMs in the past. Maura added Curtis had a “good look at her Instagram page,” to which Curtis joked: “A little scroll.”
Phillip then asked the professional dancer if she had replied to his message, to which he said: “No”.
A flustered Maura then explained: “Do you know what I didn’t see the message, I actually didn’t see the message.
“And anyways, even if I did, I’m gonna be honest I wouldn’t of replied because I just don’t do that, I don’t reply to random strangers, I don’t know him.”
Holly sweetly pointed out it's as if their romance was ”meant to happen” and added: ”Because there was that, and it obviously happened on Love Island.”
Maura then described how “weird” their connection is, while professional dancer Curtis relived their first meeting and described how a “feather fell” during their conversation.
To which Holly joked: “It’s the angels,” and Maura insisted it was a “sign” they were meant to be together.
After the TV chat, Curtis posted a group snap of him, Maura, Phil and Holly and joked they were wearing “matching outfits”. Sharing a snap of them all in blue in the studio Curtis said: “Blue Day #matchingoutfits … Thank you @thismorning.”
The couple have recently been forced to deny rumours they had split after fans feared the worst when they hadn’t posted much about one another since leaving the villa.

Love Island viewers then took to the comments of photos on each of the accounts to try and get clarity on if they were together or not. One fan asked Maura: “Are you and Curtis still together? I hope so!” A second added: “Please post more photos with Curtis.” While others wrote on Curtis’ most recent photo: “Where’s Maura?!”
Curtis has since revealed the couple’s status in an interview with new! magazine. He told the publication: “I don’t read to much into it, because they’re rumours. It’s mine and Maura’s relationship and we haven’t split up.
“The main reason people thought we’d broken up, I’d say, is because we were in the villa 24/7.
He added: “We have jobs and people expect you to still be in that villa lifestyle. But that isn’t real life. She goes to work and I go to work, so we meet up afterwards.
“We’re super happy with how everything is going,” he said.
Speaking about if the couple had “made it official”, he said: “I’m old-fashioned with ‘making it official’. If you’re seeing someone you are sort of official.
“In the olden days it wouldn’t be, ‘Will you be my girlfriend?’ If you’re seeing someone and getting to know them, then you’re official until you’re not.”
