When your older siblings are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (bonafide child stars, successful fashion designers, and overall icons), and they offer you advice for navigating a career in the spotlight — it's a signal to take notes. After all, the notoriously reclusive twins have become experts at keeping their private lives — well, private — while still maintaining a multi-million dollar empire since retiring from acting.
In fact, their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, still lives by a rule they passed down to her before she became a household name.
This week, Mary-Kate and Ashley's sisterly advice went viral, after a video of Elizabeth's interview for Off-Camera with Sam Jones from January resurfaced on TikTok. During the candid discussion, the actress shared a "mantra" she picked up from her sisters that "still holds true" in the way she conducts herself professionally.
"Something my sisters always say, which might have come from my father at one point — my dad, I don't know — is that 'no' is a full sentence," Elizabeth explained, adding: "And I really like that, especially as a woman. You can just say 'no,' and I just really like that in all aspects of life."
The powerful phrase even caught the attention of GoT actress Sophie Turner, who reposted the clip to her Instagram Stories, writing: "I love this," according to Us Weekly.
Last month, the WandaVision star acknowledged her privilege of sharing the same last name as Mary-Kate and Ashley during an interview with Grazia. "Nepotism is a thing and I'm very aware of it," she told the magazine, but added that never intended to take advantage of her sisters' fame to score acting gigs. "I've always wanted to do it alone."
