Sir Michael Caine looked dapper as he walked out onto the stage to receive his honour. The Italian Job star collected the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Contribution to World Cinema at the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic on Friday.

The 88-year-old could be seen balancing on a walking stick while receiving support.

The beloved actor was all smiles as he held the stick up in the air after collecting his statuette.

Michael sported a classic black tuxedo complete with a bow tie, as the filmstar took to the red carpet alongside his wife Shakira, 74.

His other half looked equally chic as she rocked a glittery gown teamed with a smart blazer.

Ahead of his appearance on stage, Michael walked the red carpet and was again given a helping hand as he waved to the crowd.

The Get Carter actor, who has over 40 commendations including two Oscars, was this year’s special guest at the festival.

After being snapped on the red carpet, Michael hit the stage to receive his accolade before sitting down for an interview.

During his acceptance speech, he shared: “I started out as a nobody from nowhere who knew nothing.

“And just wandered on, and wandered on, and wandered on.”

He added: “And achieved, and achieved, and achieved. God knows how I did it. I haven’t the foggiest idea.

“I was just very, very lucky.”

The actor has been using a cane since he suffered an ankle injury, after he slipped on ice back in 2018.

His representative told Express.co.uk at the time that the esteemed actor had been in the garden when the incident happened, adding: “[He] is in fine health and great spirits.”

He was subsequently seen using a wheelchair during his recovery and has been walking with a stick when pictured on outings.

In 2019 during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Michael explained: “I only have this stick when I go out in case I get [into] circumstances.

“If you have a broken ankle, everywhere you go, the lift is out of order. You’ll notice that!” he quipped.

Meanwhile, Michael has enjoyed one of the longest marriages in showbiz history, after tying the knot with his wife in 1973.

The couple have one daughter together, Natasha, 48, while the Alfie star has another daughter Dominique, 65, from his previous marriage with actress Patricia Haines.

The veteran British actor revealed how he met the love of his life after seeing her star in a coffee commercial.

“I was at home and this commercial came on for Maxwell House coffee. And there was this beautiful Brazilian girl,” he told Andrew Denton’s Interview.

“I said to my mate, ‘We’re going to Brazil tomorrow – I have plenty of money, we’re going to find her.'”
