It is a 170 year old festive tradition that dates back to the age of Queen Victoria and coincides with the publication of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
But the tradition of sending Christmas cards is still a firm part of December for the Royal Family with the photographs capturing heartwarming moments including a black and white shot of the late Princess Diana with her sons Prince William and Harry in 1995.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020, are not obliged to release their Christmas card to the public but we can’t help admiring the sweet snapshot of their family including adorable baby Archie in 2020.
So as we prepare to take a look at the annual Christmas card, let’s take a look back at the cards over the years…
In 1942 a black and white Christmas card of a 16 year old Princess Elizabeth was sent to the Grenadier Guards regiment of the British Army who were fighting in World War II.
