Amanda Holden, 50, has fumed over being forced to splash out over £2,500 on COVID-19 tests for a family holiday to Portugal with her husband Chris Hughes and their two daughters Hollie and Alexa. The Britain’s Got Talent judge said she felt lucky to be able to afford going abroad at the start of June during the school holidays.
However, Amanda furiously insisted she will “never again” throw money away on a trip away.
“We need to stand together, we stopped the poll tax,” the Heart FM presenter said.
Discussing the issues she faced ahead of her holiday amid travel rules due to the coronavirus pandemic, Amanda said: “Getting there cost over £2,500 in tests.
“I don’t want to rant on and on about it, but I think that is taking advantage of the British public.
“I’m in a position where I can afford to chuck that money. It’s awful. It’s a huge amount of money – that is literally chucking it away. Someone’s taking the p***.”
The star added: “Never again am I paying that amount of money.
“There should be some kind of inquiry into that.
“It was worth it in the sense that we got away as a family and we were so fortunate to be away.
“I can’t moan about it because so many other people didn’t get away, and we got home and safe and all of that.”
Amanda explained: “If I’d chosen to I could have come home, and got in a queue at Faro airport and got one for 25 Euros, but I probably would have caught Covid because the queue was around the block.”
The television and radio personality argued that the traffic light system is “stupid”, before confirming her family returned from Portugal before the country was moved from the green list to amber on June 8.
Sharing her concerns about the system, Amanda said: “Half the countries on an amber list… essentially we’d be safer if we went to those countries than we are in our own country, so what the hell.

“None of it makes any sense.”
Amanda went on to bemoan her inability to attend her children’s sports day while speaking to Alan Carr on his Life’s a Beach podcast.
She continued: “I can’t go to my children’s sports day, which are outside, but Wimbledon can happen.
“My children were so disappointed.”
It comes after Amanda stepped out in a glamorous gold gown back in May to celebrate cinemas reopening after lockdown closed them down.
The singer dressed up with co-star Ashley Roberts, 39, while hosting their Heart FM breakfast show at the time.
The duo posed for photos outside the ODEON cinema in London with their microphones during the broadcast.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently extended England’s restrictions for four weeks to July 19 due to concerns about the Delta strain of the virus.
