The Spice Girls took the world by storm in the early 90s, and after they returned to the stage in 2019, the girl group thought it was only fitting return for a sequel to their hit 1997 move Spice World.

The popular girl group have reportedly approached a renowned screenwriter about their return to the big screen ahead of their 25th anniversary next year, sources claim.

According to reports, the project is being spearheaded by Ginger Spice Geri Horner, with Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Mel B already on board for the reboot with the hopes that Victoria Beckham will join, too.

However, fans are yet to find out whether Posh Spice herself will returning to the role after she confirmed she would not be taking part of their latest tour which was organised for 2021.

The former bandmates reunited in 2019 for a 13-date stadium tour all across the UK and Ireland without Victoria, however the girls are said to be hoping that the latest movie script will sweeten the deal.

A film industry insider told The Sun Online: “The girls have been talking about how to mark the film’s anniversary and are actively considering making a tongue-on-cheek sequel.

“They have approached a screenwriter who is considering working on the project and making tentative steps forward.

“It is still in the early stages but they are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are taking a big screen comeback seriously.”

The group originally reunited with their former manager Simon Fuller for their comeback tour but have since decided to part ways, with Gerri taking the reins for the group.

Sporty Spice Mel C confirmed in December: “Gerri is pretty much managing us right now. The thing is, we’re pretty much unmanageable.”

Although Spice World was hounded with negative reviews at the time, the film brought in more than £70million when it was released making it the highest-grossing movie by a musical group of all time.

It starred the five band members along with numerous A list celebrities Richard E. Grant, Meatloaf and Sir Elton John – to name a few.

The movie saw the Spice Girls in countless hilarious situations including a humorous encounter with aliens, a night in a haunted castle and moment of truth inside a maternity ward.

In an interview with Vogue Germany, Victoria Beckham explained why she turned down the chance to return to the stage with her former bandmates.

She said: “It took me a lot of courage not to go on tour with the Spice Girls again, but to be the one who says: ‘You know, I’m not doing it because things feel different now than they used to’.

“I’d rather concentrate on my family and my company. I’m 45 now and very happy to be the woman I am.”
