Steph McGovern, 38, weighed in as one of her former colleagues at the BBC announced some “personal news”. Broadcaster Rory Cellan-Jones confirmed he was leaving the Beeb after 40 years.

The Technology correspondent shared the “personal news” on Twitter yesterday.

He said: “Some personal news..in late October I shall be leaving the BBC.

“I’ve had the most fabulous time working with brilliant people.

“But after 40 years it’s time to move on…”

Steph was one of many who sent him well wishes following the announcement.

Posting in response to the news on Twitter, she penned: “Ah Rory – what a loss for the BBC.”

She then added: “Sending lots of love xx.”

Rory was quick to reply to his former co-star as he thanked her for her words.

He wrote back in view of his 187,000 followers: “Thanks Steph!

“Highlight of my morning walk today was hearing you mentioned on The Archers!”

Rory was referencing how Steph had a cameo of sorts on the radio show.

This is because she was announced as the “celebrity guest” at the Ambridge Fete.

Steph posted about this yesterday as she admitted she hadn’t been asked about this.

She penned to her Instagram followers: “Phone been going a bit wild since The Archers was on @BBCRadio4 last night. A surprise to me too! #loveafete.”

Steph worked at the BBC for many years, first on radio shows before landing a hosting gig on BBC Breakfast.

However, she left the corporation in October 2019 to join Channel 4.

She launched her television series Steph’s Packed Lunch in September 2020.

Although, Steph has announced she will be returning to the BBC for a new show later this year.

She confirmed last week she will be presenting a show called Walking with… Steph McGovern on BBC Two this autumn.

Steph revealed on Instagram: “Spent the day filming a show in The Yorkshire Dales on Monday. I walked round Littondale in the sunshine for 7 hours.

“All I had to do was carry a little camera on a stick and then walk round talking to myself and any people I met along the way!” (sic)

Steph also wasn’t the only star to share their goodbyes to Rory following his announcement.

Plenty of BBC presenters weighed in on the news as well.

Naga Munchetty penned: “You utterly brilliant man – You will be sorely missed x.”

Andrew Marr then wrote: “Very very sad day for the BBC. And for straight factual news broadcasting.”

Dan Walker added: “I wish you all the best for the future Rory.

“I love your analysis and insight but, above all that, you are a thoroughly decent bloke. Take care.”
