‘Boss Level’ trailer gives viewers a taste of the action

Grillo stars as Roy Pulver, a former special forces officer who stumbles upon a secret government project that causes his death. Trapped in a never-ending time loop, Pulver relives the same day over and over (think Groundhog Day on steroids) and must find the head of the program in order to save himself as well as his ex-wife and son.

Pulver fights in every way imaginable from guns to swords, where he calls upon a legendary sword master to help him up his game.

Grillo was an experienced boxer when he took on the role, yet the demands of the film required intense training for six months. Filmed in only 27 days, Boss Level takes audiences on a movie experience packed with action and humor. Check out the trailer:

How you can watch ‘Boss Level’, and who’s in the cast

Boss Level will be available on Hulu early next month. Co-written and directed by Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team, Smokin’ Aces), the film features some Hollywood heavy hitters that takes the action to another level (pardon the pun).

Oscar nominee Naomi Watts plays Pulver’s ex-wife, Jemma Wells. Michelle Yeoh of Bond fame and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon shows off her sword-fighting skills as Dai Feng, who trains Pulver. Academy Award winner and action movie legend Mel Gibson stars as Colonel Clive Ventor, the villain behind the underground government project.

Super Bowl champ Rob Gronkowski apparently has some acting chops, making an appearance in Boss Level. Ken Jeong, Annabelle Wallis, Selina Lo, and Will Sasso are also in the film. The combined star power alone makes Boss Level a must-see movie.

“You’re just dealing with a high, high level talent,” Carnahan told Showbiz Cheat Sheet of the cast. “If you have people like that, artists like that, in charge of bringing your words and your sentiments… I think you’re in good shape, and I certainly consider myself lucky to have them.”

Watch ‘Boss Level’ on March 5

So, when can viewers watch Boss Level? Hulu streams the film on March 5, 2021. Though the filming of Boss Level took place recently, Carnahan was pitching the premise for quite some time.

“Frank [Grillo] and I tried to get that movie made for 10 years,” the director shared. “We couldn’t get traction. … Hollywood functions in this proven finance model – this actor’s with x, that actor’s with y. This is how they kind of hedge their bets on the overseas market …. So based on that model, we couldn’t get the film made. The fact it got made at all is really remarkable. The fact it came out as good as it did is really remarkable.”

Carnahan teamed up with Grillo for another film, scheduled to release this summer.

“I just did a film called Copshop with Frank, Gerard Butler and Alexis Louder,” Carnahan told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “Copshop is kind of a neo-feminist western movie that takes place in the present day. It’s just this really cool take on a 70s kind of film, like Foxy Brown, Clint Eastwood, etc. Really cool stuff.”
