James Bond odds: BIGGEST bets placed on NEW favourite since Daniel Craig announced end

Craig will be a tough act to follow. Unsurprisingly all the current favourites have played at least one major action hero role. The favour seems to be slanted towards small screen stars rather than Hollywood names and the new huge favourite probably has the lowest profile out of the entire group. But UK bookies just revealed extraordinary support for him from punters. Is this the new Bond?

Previously, one of the leading British bookies reported that this Scottish hunk has received more than twice the number of bets than all the other contenders combined.

Now even more impressive statistics point to a potential runaway favourite.

Coral reports a major flurry of bets for Sam Heughan to play the next James Bond where he is their favourite at 5-2 in the betting. The Outlander star was far back at 16-1 just four weeks ago but following a strong gamble, he is now the clear favourite in the firm’s betting.

Coral told Express Online: “Sam Heughan is proving to be the unanimous choice with our punters to play the next James Bond as they have been knocking us over to back the Outlander actor to be 007.”

In fact, the Scottish actor has set a new record.

Coral added: “This is the biggest gamble we have seen since Daniel Craig announced he will be hanging up his tuxedo after No Time To Die.

“Over 70% of all the bets we have taken on James Bond over the last seven days have been for Sam Heughan. He is proving a very popular choice with punters who see the Outlander star as the perfect replacement for Daniel Craig.”

His huge surge in popularity has sent the other leaders of the pack, including the previously unassailable Madden, plummeting much further back in the odds.

Madden had been as high as Evens before but has slumped back to 5-1, alongside Tom Hiddleston and another newer face James Norton. Even further back are Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy at 8-1.

Idris Elba was once the hot favourite but has slipped to 10-1, alongside Jack Lowden and Jamie Bell. They’re followed by Aidan Turner and Cillian Murphy.

Ther are also two other outliers who are worth keeping an eye while their odds are lower, especially since one has a massive new show about to launch.

Superman star Henry Cavill continues to insist he has not hung up his cape but it is major new Netflix show The Witcher which will beam him into households across the globe and reignite his profile.

The hugely anticipated show launches on December 20. and positions Cavill as an edgier and gritty anti-hero, building on his recently scene-stealing role in Mission Impossible Fallout last year.

Another dark horse is Crazy Rich Asians breakout star Henry Golding, who is currently back in cinemas opposite Emilia Clarke in Last Christmas.

He could be a canny choice at 20-1.

Although he is most famous for time-travelling drama (and bodice-ripper) Outlander, Heughan has already convincingly played a British secret agent in The Spy Who Dumped Me, opposite Mila Kunis.

Outlander, meanwhile, will certainly keep the Scottish star firmly in the limelight.

There have been eight source novels from author Diana Gabaldon so far.

The immensely popular spin-off TV show is about to launch Season Five, with Season Six already confirmed.
