Archie Lyndhurst’s Only Fools dad Nicholas warned him against TV career

Archie Lyndhurst's famous father Nicholas Lyndhurst begged his son not to become an actor.

The CBBC star revealed in March that his father, who played Rodney Trotter in ionic sitcom Only Fools And Horses, asked him multiple times to rethink his career path.

Speaking frankly about his career, Archie, 19 said: "I knew I wanted to be an actor when I was eight. At the time, I didn’t know my dad was an actor, and he kept trying to say to me that I shouldn’t start acting.

"I then found out that he was an actor and said that if he can do it, I can do it as well! That didn’t change anything though as he still wouldn’t let me do it."

He added to Tressa magazine: "He eventually asked me why I wanted to be an actor, and I said it’s because I wanted to make people laugh.

"He then sent me to drama school, I got my first agent, I started getting work, and now I’m here. I’m incredibly grateful for everything I’ve been given."

Speaking in 2015 to The Guardian, Nicolas, 59, admitted the only advise he gave Archie was not to follow in his perfmcoring footsteps.

He recalled to the publication: "[I said] I can’t offer any advice other than please don’t do it."

He went on to add that his son simply replied he wanted to entertain people.

Explaining how he debated the idea with his wife Lucy, Nicholas added: "I told Lucy 'if I ever hear him say the f-word – famous – the deal’s off'… he never has.

"He’s filming his second series for CBBC, So Awkward, I wish I’d been as good as him at his age."
