Corrie’s Craig Charles unrecognisable in throwback snap 7 years after soap exit

Coronation Street star Craig Charles shocked fans with a throwback photo where he looks totally unrecognisable.

The Red Dwarf actor shared the snap of himself with his followers on Twitter surrounded by his co-stars on the hit sci-fi show back in the '90s.

Craig, 57, looked fresh-faced and youthful in the photo as he joked with his fans by playing down the popularity of the programme.

Pretending that they may not have heard of Red Dwarf he taunted his fans with a tongue in cheek comment as he posted the image with the caption: "Me in a little show I did in 90’s."

One excited fan wrote: "Fantastic show ! I a massive fan of yours ! Loved Robot wars, and Takeshi’s Castle ! But Red Dwarf is head and shoulders above!

"Sadly I’ve been diagnosed with advanced stage cancer, chemo is rough ! But watching Red Dwarf again is a welcome distraction! And makes me happy!"

Craig – who is recovering after his family suffered a devastating house fire just before Christmas – kicked off his new Sky History show Craig Charles: UFO Conspiracies earlier this week.

The actor has opened up about his feelings on aliens as he and space journalist Sarah Cruddas present viewers with new evidence around some of the most confusing examples of UFO encounters in recent years.

Talking about the existence of extraterrestrial life in an interview with BBC Radio Six he said: “It’s hard not to think, ‘Well, what is out there?’

"You could stick an alien on the six o’clock news, and people who don’t believe would think: ‘That’s just a guy in a suit'.”

But Craig wanted to encourage those who do have some belief in alien life not to feel like they should hide their views as science-backed evidence and attitudes are changing all the time.

He said: “If you are interested in UFOs, you don’t have to feel like a crank anymore!”
