Orlando Bloom proved to be fearless while paddleboarding in Malibu metres away from a great white shark in an insane video shared to Instagram on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old was paddleboarding off the coast of Malibu with a friend when Carlos Gauna captured a clip of a “large juvenile white shark” circling in the water right next to him.

The actor went shirtless and wore a black hat as he bent down to look at the shark swimming alongside him in the sea.

Captioning the awe-inspiring video, he wrote: “Paddle Boarding With Great Whites.”

“When fear becomes your friend and @themalibuartist captures the moment.”

He made sure to tag Carlo, a local photographer who commented on Orlando’s post writing: “Awesome day man.”

“You got some good looks of a large juvenile white shark. Happy for you! Something you'll never forget. Very calm shark just chilling in Malibu!”

Orlando famously once was captured paddleboarding in the nude while on holiday with then-girlfriend Katy Perry.

And several fans took the opportunity to call back to that iconic photo in the comments of the post.

“Yep we all remember the other paddle boarding picture,” one user wrote.

Orlando has just returned from a whirlwind European vacation with fiancee Katy Perry which began in July at the amfAR gala in Capri.

He and Katy first began dating in 2016 before splitting momentarily and rekindling their romance in 2018, ahead of welcoming a daughter, Daisy Dove.

He recently reflected on his 1998 spinal injury that had him “narrowly escaping death” after he fell down three floors off a building.

Orlando wrote on Instagram on Friday: “That's me in my back brace circa 1998 about 3 months after I fell 3 floors and crushed my spine, narrowly escaping death and paralysis … grateful everyday for my limbs that allow me to push my limits and live life on my edge (safer now)”.

He had previously spoken about the incident in 2005, saying he was climbing up to a roof terrace when the drainpipe he was holding onto collapsed.

He told GQ: 'Until then, I didn't have a healthy appreciation for life and death — that we're not invincible. And for four days, I faced the idea of living in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I went to some dark places in my mind. I realised, I'm either going to walk again or I'm not.

“But that accident has informed everything in my life. Until you're close to losing it, you don't realise. I used to ride motorbikes and drive cars like everything was a racetrack; it was ridiculous. It wasn't because I thought it was cool; it was just because I loved living on the edge. But I've chilled.”
