- Dolly Parton’s not sure if she’ll go to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
- The Rolling Stones have influenced Parton’s work.
- The Queen of Country has plans for a future rock album.
Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame even though she initially rejected the nomination. She felt she hadn’t produced any work that was worthy of the honor. However, the foundation responded in a statement that they still wanted to include the country star on the ballot because the hall “is not defined by any one genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture.” When Parton won her spot, the “Dumb Blonde” singer said she’d happily and “gracefully” accept her induction. But, now, she has her sights set on adding some more rock to her repertoire.
Dolly Parton doesn’t know if she’ll go to the induction ceremony
When Parton was interviewed by Billboard about the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame “controversy,” she was asked if she planned on going to the induction ceremony.
“I don’t know,” she responded. “If I do, I’m going to sing the hardest style rock ‘n’ roll song I could ever muster up just to show that I can do it.”
She doesn’t have a particular song in mind yet.
“I don’t know what I’ll do,” she said. “… But I’ll do something to make it fun and to be forgiven for my mistake. To earn my title.”
Dolly Parton says The Rolling Stones influence her music
When asked about rock groups that have influenced her work, Parton named The Rolling Stones.
“I’ve always wanted to do the song ‘Satisfaction,’” she said. “That’s one of my husband’s favorite songs. And I may have to drag Mick’s guys up there to help me sing it.”
On March 30, Parton posted a throw-back photo of her and Mick Jagger in the ’70s.
“Yeah, I loved him,” said Parton. “… I’m hoping we’re both around long enough when I get to doing this record that he’ll come sing with me, and I may have to use The Rolling Stones to play behind me.”
Parton’s nomination for The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame put the idea of a rock album closer to the top of her to-do list, but the Queen of Country says it’s been something she’d been thinking of doing “before I even got nominated.”
Dolly Parton wants to make a rock album
She’s got big plans for exploring rock.
“I thought about writing a song called ‘Rock of Ages,’ where I get all the great old rock ‘n’rollers, the people that I have always admired and respected,” said Parton. “I didn’t follow rock music that much, but my husband is a rock ‘n’ roll freak. He loves all the groups and all the great stuff. I just liked certain records. I may do up a version of something like [Lynyrd Skynyrd’s] ‘Free Bird’ and do my own versions of some classic things that I think would make good rock ‘n’ roll songs.”
Parton says she doesn’t know when she can get around to making this album, “but I will do one.”
“I’ve got to overcome this so-called controversy, which I never meant it to be that,” she said. “So now I’m in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. So I’m going to have to do a rock album at some point. … Now I may have to call my album Rock Star!”
