Scottish powerhouse Lulu has admitted to making drastic lifestyle changes after her recent medical diagnosis left her feeling "frightened".
As people all over the work ring in the new year and make their new year’s resolutions, the iconic songstress has revealed she will also be making big changes in her life.
After she watched her doting dad Eddie pass away as a result of high cholesterol last year, the 73-year-old signer decided to manage and monitor her own levels.
It was shortly after his passing that the star received a shocking diagnosis that her levels had raised since she last checked.
The Daily Express reports that Lulu was “frightened” when doctors told her that she needed to watch her cholesterol with her main fear stemming from the fact that it is a big contributor to coronary heart disease.
Since her diagnosis, the star has had time to reflect on her father’s death, as she told the publication how her doting dad failed to “take care of his body” in his later years.
She said: “My father’s death – at the age of 71 – was terrible. I loved him dearly. He had worked in the meat market in Glasgow for years and was a great singer.
“Unfortunately, he didn’t really take care of his body and he had plenty of health warnings that he ignored.
“So, even though I've always tried to look after myself, when I discovered that I had raised cholesterol, memories of my dad’s illness spurred me on and I made sure that I did something about it.”
It was at this point that the singer threw away ice-cream from her freezer, stopped putting butter on her sandwiches and started to cook cholesterol-lowering meals as part of her everyday diet.
She now makes an effort to start each day with a cup of hot water and a squeeze of lemon, a coffee, porridge, muesli and yoghurt after she shared her passion for the importance of breakfast in a diet.
The NHS suggest eating foods that are high in unsaturated fats in small amounts to lower cholesterol, such as oily fish, nuts, seeds, avocados and vegetable oils and spreads.
Lulu now eats all of these foods as well as reportedly drinking “loads of water” and now rates herself fairly high in terms of her health.

She went on to add that she has always made a conscious effort to look after her health, particularly after her battle with pneumonia – an infection that causes the air sacs in one or both lungs to inflame.
The Scott added: “If I had to rate my health on a scale of one to 10, I'd give myself a nine. I've always taken care to exercise and to eat a good diet. I eat organic food, because there are so many chemicals in non-organic produce.
