Madonna has always prided herself on being a great mum to her six children.
Her daughter Lourdes Leon is her eldest and first biological child – and a dead ringer for her famous mum.
But the pair haven't always had the smoothest relationship as Lourdes grew up surrounded by her five siblings.
Lourdes was the product of Madonna's relationship with dancer/actor Carlos Leon. The pair split shortly after her birth but remained amicable.
The fashionista also has a half brother, Rocco Ritchie, 21, who lives with his movie producer dad Guy Ritchie, and four adoptive siblings, David Banda, 16, Mercy James, 15, and nine-year-old twins Stella and Estere Ciccone.
Lourdes will soon turn 25 on October 14 and has carved out her own career in the spotlight working as a successful fashion model.
But her famous mum isn't the driving force behind her success according to Lourdes.
In September this year Lourdes appeared on the cover of high fashion magazine Vogue alongside seven other models.
Inside the pages of the magazine she claimed she isn't a spoilt rich kid – and that she has paid her own way in life, including putting herself through college.
She said: “People think I’m this talentless rich kid who’s had everything given to her, but I’m not.”
Lourdes also admitted that she lives in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn in a bid to remain low-key and independent from her mother.
In a 2019 interview Madonna, 63, admitted to feeling that she had become more distant with her children than they had once been.
The '80s icon also confessed that she felt disappointed in Lourdes because she had contributed to her not reaching her full potential by buying her a mobile phone.
She explained to Vogue: “I’m green with envy because she’s incredible at everything she does. But she doesn’t have the same drive, and again, I feel social media plagues her and makes her feel like, ‘People are going to give me things because I’m her daughter.’”
Madonna added that she tries to encourage her daughter to have more drive to succeed – just like she did at her age.
She said: "I try to give her examples of other children of celebrities like Zoe Kravitz, for instance, who have to work through that 'Oh yea, you're the daughter of..' and then eventually you are taken seriously for what you do. You just have to keep going.
"But does she have the same drive that I have? No. But she also has a mother, and I didn't. She grew up with money, and I didn't. So everything is going to be different. But what can I do? I can't fixate on it. I just have to do my best."
She continued to blame phones for "ending her relationship" with Lourdes and her siblings.
She said: “It ended my relationship with my children, really. Not completely, but it became a very, very big part of their lives. They became too inundated with imagery and started to compare themselves to other people, and that’s really bad for self-growth.”
Fans have often commented that Lourdes and her mum look more like siblings than mother and daughter.
Lourdes does have some striking similarities to Madonna at a younger age.
But her mum got tongues wagging about them when they posed for a striking selfie together for a very different reason.
In the snap, the pair were seen getting their flattering angles set up – with Lourdes stretching her arm high in the air holding her phone.
She was dressed in a skimpy green halterneck mini dress – and it got everyone talking for an unexpected reason.
Lourdes had exposed her ample armpit hair in the picture – putting her at the centre of a very controversial debate about female body hair and getting her name mentioned everywhere.
However, some fans felt that Madonna had engineered the post to make sure they would get talked about.
One wrote: "Madonna is brilliant sometimes without you even knowing it. She knows damn well the pits will be the center of conversation and low and behold…she was right! You all lost, she won. She’s going viral again."
