Mike Tindall has touched down in Australia as he prepares to become the first member of the Royal Family ever to take part in ITV's hit show I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The 44-year old former England rugby star, who is married to the late Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter Zara Phillips, landed at Brisbane airport on Thursday night to confirm his jungle stint.

ITV bosses are delighted to have got their man, as a source told the Sun : "It’s a massive coup. Mike has had a box seat for some of the most important moments in royal history for generations.

"He is sure to be discreet, but his sheer presence means this series will be an absolute must-watch."

Speaking for the first time about signing up Tindall, who was part of the England side that tasted Rugby World Cup glory in 2003, said: "It should be good fun, why not? It is always worth a go isn't it."

Australia holds a special place in Tindall's heart as it was in Sydney where he first met his wife.

He said: "Australia is a special place yeah I met Zara in Sydney. There is no holiday planned at the moment afterwards. If there was I wouldn't tell you either!"

Discussing his fears of what lies ahead, the star revealed the issues that have been playing on his mind ahead of the series' November 6 launch.

"Hanger is always going to be the biggest thing to worry about, but I have also got three kids so going without sleep goes with the territory. Again you are stepping into something you don't know.

"The family I will miss the most of course. This will probably be the longest time I have been away and then not having communication, that will be the hardest bit. But also you get your head around what you are doing and try to win some stars. I want to win stars because I want to eat."

Amongst the big names joining Tindall Down Under are Hollyoaks' Owen Warner, pop sensation Boy George, Love Island legend Olivia Attwood and Loose Women's Charlene White.

Also joining the camp is radio DJ Chris Moyles, Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver, comedians Babatunde Aleshe and Seann Walsh, and footballing legend Jill Scott.
