With £150,000 to play with, Beverly was joined by mum Margaret as she tasked A Place in the Sun’s Sara Damergi with finding an ideal rural family home in Umbria, Italy. With the possibility of an extra £25,000 to add for the perfect home, Sara got to work lining up five perfect properties for Beverly, although there was one “risky” option that didn’t exactly sit well with the house-hunter. So much so, the Channel 4 guest admitted it was just “left-field” it was in “a different country!”

Kicking off the house hunt was property number one, a two-bed house in Umbertide available for around £177,000

Situated on the top floor of an apartment block, the property consisted of two apartments which could be changed into a three-bed option.

“Lots of interesting features, the landscape is stunning but not convinced,” Beverly said of the first option and the trio soon moved on to Panicale.

For £134,000, the second option was a three-bed house complete with a self-contained apartment.

“It’s a steal,” Sara commented when she compared the price to the first option.

And Beverly soon warmed to the property, saying: “It’s got a nice feel to it – you come in here and it’s lovely and cosy.”

Margaret agreed and Sara had her first contender – although number three soon came along to blow it out the water.

A three-bed converted farm building in Castiglione del Lago on the market for £143,000, the pair’s initial lukewarm reception to the property soon heated up.

“It really has taken me by surprise,” Margaret said upon stepping inside with Beverly agreeing with her mother.

The kitchen was wider than property two and the sizable garden blew the pair away – leading them to rule out the Panicale.

However, when Sara lined up the fourth option, Sara admitted she’d taken a major “gamble.”

She explained: “It’s a bit of a doer-upper – it’s a bit of a risk and I’m not sure how it’s going to go down.”

As Beverly and Margaret approached the property, Sara tried her best pitch: “So this detached property is what we’re looking at,

“And you did say you’d be open to seeing all sorts of things, something different. Here it is.”

But the gamble quickly backfired as Beverly soon shut it down: “It’s certainly different. I dunno about left-field, it’s in a different country!”

Hoping Margaret would give a better response, Sara was admittedly “worried” when she stood in silence, claiming she was “speechless”.

“You two speechless is a worry to me,” Sara said and once inside, the mood failed to change as Beverly ruled it out.

The fifth and final house, a three-bed property in Paciano available for approximately £173,000, was also quickly rubbished.

However, despite having a strong contender in number three, a house Beverly had described as “practically perfect”, she refused to put an offer in.

“Ruled it out!?” Sara asked in surprise. “That is a shock, I thought you would make an offer as you said it was practically perfect.”

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
