Downton Abbey actress Phyllis Logan has landed herself a new role in the Scottish drama Guilt. The first season aired last year and ended on a major cliffhanger but now it’s back and Logan plays Maggie Lynch, the matriarch of a crime family. Despite being a successful and talented actress, being so well-known does come with its drawbacks.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Guilt.
Arguably actress Phyllis Logan’s most famous role was in ITV period drama Downton Abbey as Mrs Hughes.
Firm but fair, she was a shoulder to cry on for many of the staff and had a flirtationship with Mr Carson (played by Jim Carter) who she ended up marrying.
But now Logan will be turning her attention to a far darker role in Maggie Lynch in season two of Guilt.
As the matriarch of the Lynch family, she is often the one calling the shots and is ruthless when it comes to making decisions, so is worlds away from Mrs Hughes.

Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, Logan explained how she still gets nervous before starting a new show, despite her acting career spanning more than 40 years.
Logan said: “You feel a bit of pressure certainly because it [Guilt season one] was so successful and so brilliant that you do feel a certain amount of pressure.
“The likes of Mark [Bonnar] and Jamie [Sives], they know the form so they’re coming into it knowing how to do it.
“While we are having to embody them [the characters] in a way we haven’t tried before.”
The Scottish actress added: “So there’s always a bit of nervousness, trepidation, worry that you’re not going to quite pull it off I suppose, you worry about that all the time.
“It was an added pressure that it was so successful and great [the first time around]. “
Season two is going to kick off with the Lynch family as daughter Erin (Sarah Vickers) is to discover two bodies in a cellar in Edinburgh.
Rather than call the police, she phones her dad Roy Lynch (Stuart Bowman) but what happened?
