Emmerdale viewers are convinced that Jamie Tate’s fate isn’t what it seems after Thursday night’s surprise ending.

Jamie’s car was last seen sinking into the river after he was distracted by a call from Gabby on his flee from the village, causing him to swerve into the path of Chas Dingle in her own vehicle.

Avoiding the collision in the nick of time, Jamie lost control of the car and sped through some bushes before landing in the river.

As the vehicle came out the other side, Jamie could be heard screaming just before splashing into the water.

While it looks like Jamie was trapped inside the car as it entered the water, there was no shot to confirm that he was still inside.

The final shot of the episode was silent as Jamie's car became fully submerged and the water still.

Chas' fate remains unknown as she was last seen swerving to avoid Jamie.

While viewers will have to wait until Friday’s episode to discover Jamie's fate, some are already convinced they’ve figured it out.

A number of fans have suggested that Jamie will survive the accident and return to the show in the coming weeks or months while others are anticipating answers in Friday night's episode.

One viewer wrote: "Don’t know if this is the end for Jamie I feel like there could be another twist cannot wait for tomorrow’s episode."

Another said: "Jamie won’t be dead……I’ll put money on it."

As a third agreed: "I'm hoping he will escape somehow."

A fourth comment took note of Jamie’s scream heard before the car entered the water, predicting it could have been Jamie screaming as he jumped from the moving vehicle: "no doubt Jamie will jump out this car completely unharmed of course!!!!"

While fans await the reveal, some may be avoiding the show’s official Twitter after they spoiled a twist earlier in the week.

Fans were left wondering who The Woolpack robber could be after he left Charity Dingle for dead but quickly found themselves angry as the Emmerdale Twitter account spoiled the reveal to be Cain Dingle half hour before the scene aired.

The mishap came as the scheduled tweet was set to go live after the show finished airing at 7.30pm, but account managers hadn’t realised that the episode was an hour long and would be ending at 8pm instead.

One viewer joked: "Thanks for the heads up don’t need to watch now. Spoiler alert."

As another said: "Might want to wait till 8 when the show ends guys #spoiler."
