Emmerdale fans shaken as Victoria Barton fights for her life in gripping scenes

Emmerdale viewers have been glued to their screens as survival week took a fatal turn, with Victoria Barton (Isabel Hodgins) fighting for her life.

Yesterday’s episode saw the long-serving character attempt to fight her phobias beside David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden), as they joined Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) on a very rickety bridge.

Tragedy ensued when the structure collapsed underneath them, with Charles and Manpreet instantly falling to the rapids below.

Tonight’s instalment saw Victoria and David clinging on for their lives while hanging on to what was left of the bridge.

As they struggled to pull themselves up, they both dropped into the water, with the currents drifting them towards a perilous waterfall.

At the very end of the instalment, Victoria was seen being pulled over the end of the waterfall, with her screams ringing out as credits rolled.

Fans watching on from home couldn’t take the tension, as they flocked to Twitter to share their fears for the long-serving character.

An impressed viewer said: ‘WOW what an ending #Emmerdale.’

‘Somebody give Victoria a break! (Preferably NOT in pieces over the waterfall!) After all the bad things that have happened to her…isn’t it time for her to have some happier moments? @Hodge_Isabel is doing an incredible job! #Emmerdale,’ one agreed.

As a Twitter user posted: ‘Surely Victoria can’t survive that fall?? #emmerdale.’

While many others heaped praise on the actors for completing the incredible stunts.

Attempting to make sure that her foe doesn’t make it through the cruelly named ‘survival adventure’, Meena was seen sabotaging her safety equipment at one point.

But could she take her plan one step further?

Isabel joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2006 with her role as Victoria, taking over from previous actress Hannah Midgely, who had portrayed the character for nine years.
