Finally, the highly anticipated release date for the sixth and final season of Netflix’s critically-acclaimed animated series has officially been announced. Accompanying this exciting news was the first glimpse at Bojack Horseman Season 6 with the release of a new trailer. Season 6 appears to be a bittersweet farewell and conclusion for the characters Bojack Horseman fans have grown to love and relate to over the past five years.
So, what can fans expect from Season 6? When will the new season be released? Will we ever see Erica’s face? Keep reading to learn everything fans need to know before watching Bojack Horseman Season 6.
When will ‘Bojack Horseman’ Season 6 be released?
Nearly a year ago, Bojack Horseman was renewed for another season. The announcement was made on the character’s official Twitter account where he also addressed his famous hatred for honeydew, having been given a fruit basket of honeydew as a congratulatory gift from Netflix.
On Sept. 28, 2019, Netflix officially announced that the sixth and final season of Bojack Horseman will air in two parts. The first part will be released on Oct. 25, 2019. The second part will be released on Jan. 31, 2020.
Where did ‘Bojack Horseman’ Season 5 leave off?
In Season 5 of Bojack Horseman, things got intense for our favorite animated horse actor very quickly.
Bojack suffered from an addiction to pain medication after having an accident on set. His addiction causes him to spiral out of control, nearly destroy his relationships and his career, and worst of all, almost caused him to kill his girlfriend Gina during a shoot. Season 5 ends with Bojack admitting that he needs help and going to rehab with the help of his ghostwriter and longtime friend, Diane Nguyen.
Diane is still struggling to find herself and happiness after her divorce with Mr. Peanutbutter. Meanwhile, Mr. Peanutbutter has just proposed to his new girlfriend, Pickles after withholding the truth about his recent affair with Diane.
Princess Carolyn has finally adopted a child and seems to be mending her relationship with Ralph. Todd continues to explore his asexuality and seems to be growing more and more tired of his misadventures as the comic relief.
What’s in store for ‘Bojack Horseman’ Season 6?
In the trailer for Bojack Horseman Season 6, Bojack is writing a letter to Diane from rehab. In the letter, he mentions his many regrets in a typical Bojack fashion but also mentions having something the character hasn’t had for most of the series: hope.
Bojack appears to be optimistic for the future and for his recovery. In the trailer, he writes to Diane, “Every time someone leaves rehab, makes you think about your own progress. I bought into this idea that I was the thing that couldn’t be changed, but the main thing I think about is how stupid I am that I didn’t do this sooner. I wasted so many years being miserable because I assumed that was the only way to be, and I don’t want to be that anymore.”
Meanwhile, the other characters appear to be struggling too. Mr. Peanutbutter is preparing his fourth wedding all while concealing the horrible truth about his affair. In the trailer for Season 6, Mr. Peanutbutter appears to be implicitly called out by a new character who says that depressed people act the happiest, a statement that horrifies the happy-go-lucky canine actor. Could we see some growth and maturity for Mr. Peanutbutter in the near future?
Princess Carolyn is finally a mother, just as she always dreamed. Or so she might have thought. Our favorite talent agent, who is not to be confused with a manager, is extremely overwhelmed by the responsibilities of motherhood. Ralph is nowhere to be found, at least not in the trailer. How will our favorite film industry feline learn to juggle her dream career and motherhood?
Todd appears to be up to the same old shenanigans until a new character named Jorge comes into the picture saying that he has news about Todd’s mother, bringing Todd’s family into the picture for the first time. Later in the trailer, Todd is shown in the Intensive Care Unit, a place that had bitter significance in Season 5. Could this have been foreshadowing? Either way, what is going on with Todd’s family?
Will there be a Season 7?
Unfortunately for Bojack Horseman fans, Netflix officially announced that the animated series will end with Season 6.
Catch Bojack Horseman Season 6 Part One on Netflix on Oct. 25, 2019. The second and final chapter will air on Jan. 31, 2020.
