Let me guess: You just watched all 10 episodes of The Baby-Sitters Club season 1 in one sitting, and you’ve been ready for more ever since. Tell me about it! ICYMI, the show is an absolute delight. It follows seventh graders Kristy Thomas (Sophie Grace), Mary Anne Spier (Malia Baker), Claudia Kishi (Momona Tamada), Stacey McGill (Shay Rudolph), and Dawn Schafer (Xochitl Gomez)—aka The Baby-Sitters Club—starting a babysitting business in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.
Sometimes, book-to-screen adaptations are…less than thrilling. (Looking at you, The Goldfinch.) But rest assured: The Baby-Sitters Club rose to the occasion—and then some. If you obsessively read the books by Ann M. Martin as a kid in the ’90s—or, heck, even if you didn’t—you’ll fall in love with the show faster than you can say “landline.” Thankfully, we’re all in luck since season 2 is officially now on Netflix. Read on to get the full scoop on everything we know about the newest set of episodes for the series so far.
When is season 2 happening?
Right now! You don’t even have to wait anymore because season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club is available to stream on Netflix right at this very moment.
If you need something to hold you over until you can plop down and binge the full season tonight, Netflix released a sneak peek of the first eight minutes of episode one:
Speculation around a second season officially started back in March 2020 after showrunner and executive producer Rachel Shukert tweeted in response to someone, “Jessi comes later in the season and will be a big part of season 2!” While this obvi wasn’t the official confirmation, fans took this and ran with it. Good thing there was actual follow through!
What is season 2 about?
The Baby-Sitters Club season 2 picks up where season 1 left off. The official Netflix brief on the new season reads, “As demand for their club continues to grow, founders Kristy Thomas, Mary-Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer have now welcomed Mallory Pike and Jessi Ramsey to their ranks. With the new school year comes booming business, new relationships, personal journeys, and important lessons, but through it all the club is there for each other every step of the way.”
If you read the books, you’ll notice right away that nearly every episode gets its title from the book that inspired it. Most of the new episodes follow suit, with the slate of books turned into episodes including, but not limited to, Kristy and the Snobs and Claudia and the New Girl.
There’s certainly no shortage of material for future seasons either: There are 131 (!) books in the original series; 15 Super Specials, which are even bigger, longer, more eventful books narrated by all the girls, not just one; 36 books in The Baby-Sitters Club: Mysteries, which follow the girls solving mysteries; four Super Mysteries, which are exactly what they sound like; and more. The seasons practically write themselves. Plus, there are plenty of characters we have yet to meet, like new girl Shannon Kilbourne, mean girl Cokie Mason, and nice girl Abby, if we stick around long enough.
How many episodes are there?
Unlike season 1 that had 10 episodes, season 2 has eight. Each episode will be about 30 minutes each.
And who’s coming back?
Everybody! Plus two new faces: characters Mallory Pike and Jessi Ramsey, played by Vivian Watson and Anais Lee, respectively. You’ll also notice that there is a new Dawn Schafer. The role was recast by Kyndra Sanchez after Xochitl Gomez, who played Dawn in season 1, had to pull out due to her new role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness—the movie was filming at the exact same time as BSC.
