Freddie Prinze Jr. 'Hated Every Moment' of '24' With Kiefer Sutherland

Freddie Prinze Jr. didn’t enjoy his time on 24. The actor joined the cast of the award-winning TV show in 2010. Years later he opened up about the experience, calling out the program’s star, Kiefer Sutherland.

Freddie Prinze Jr. appeared in ‘24’ Season 8

According to his acting credits on IMDb, Prinze played Cole Ortiz, Director of Field Operations at CTU New York in 24 Season 8. He appeared in 24 episodes total, all depicting Day 8. The season premiered on Jan. 17, 2010, and ended on May 24, 2010.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prinze wasn’t the only actor to become a series regular in 24 Season 8. Anil Kapoor, Chris Diamantopoulos (Silicon Valley), and John Boyd also joined the cast.

The actor called Kiefer Sutherland ‘unprofessional’

Prinze opened up to ABC News about 24 while attending San Diego Comic-Con to promote Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels in 2014.

“I did 24, it was terrible. I hated every moment of it,” Prinze said. “Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That’s not me talking trash I’d say it to his face, I think everyone that’s worked with him has said that.”

Prinze continued, saying his time on the Golden Globe-winning series was so bad he considered giving up his acting career because of it.

“I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped,” he said.

Prinze, who has two kids with Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, cut back on acting gigs and tried new projects.

“I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ’s sake and it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer,” he said. “But, at least he was cool and tall. I didn’t have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do. Just put the guy on an apple box or don’t hire me next time. You know I’m 6 feet and he’s 5’4.”

Prinze got some heat for his comments with some saying he only got candid about 24 four years later simply for publicity reasons.

How Kiefer Sutherland responded to Freddie Prinze Jr.’s comments

The star of 24 also attended Comic-Con at the same time as his former 24 co-star. When word got back to Sutherland about Prinze’s comments, he issued a response through one of his reps.

“Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze Jr. more than five years ago, and this is the first he has heard of Freddie‘s grievances,” Sutherland’s rep said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best.”

Sutherland and Prinze haven’t worked together since. Prinze’s latest project is GEGG WARS: Galaxy of Crime while Sutherland’s is The Fugitive.
