Giovanni Pernice can finally say he has won a series of Strictly Come Dancing, after eight years. Despite having reached the final on three separate occasions, the fan-favourite has finally taken victory in this year’s BBC series with dance partner Rose Ayling-Ellis. During his time on the show, the Italian dancer has previously been partnered up with TV presenter Laura Whitmore, Steps singer Faye Tozer, soap star Georgia May Foote and performer Debbie McGee, to name a few. Following his latest interview on BBC Breakfast, the Strictly professional told presenter Dan Walker about his upcoming projects following his latest triumph.

Giovanni and Rose performed three breathtaking dances in the final, including their couple’s choice song that provoked an emotional reaction after the choreography included a touching silent moment.

As the couple appeared on BBC Breakfast, presenter Dan asked Rose: “Rose, I need to know what’s next?”

“Obviously you’re going to keep dancing, you can’t stop after being so brilliant.”

He quizzed: “What about work, have you ever thought about EastEnders?”

“What are you going to do for the rest of the year?”

The EastEnders actor made history as the first-ever deaf winner in the BBC dance competition.

Dan commented: “I’d imagine the phone is ringing non-stop and so many people want to do stuff with you.”

Rose replied: “Well, I’m doing the [Strictly Come Dancing] tour.”

She continued: “So, I’m not completely finished with dancing, so that is nice.”

The Strictly tour, which will reunite some of this year’s much-loved dancing couples, is set to begin in Birmingham on the 20th of January, 2022.

The Frankie Lewis actor added: “But I’m also going back to EastEnders.”

“Well, that is brilliant. I’m sure it will be great to see you back on the screen as well,” the BBC journalist replied.

Dan then asked: “And Gio, what about yourself? I mean, you’ve got a busy year ahead as well but I imagine this is an experience which changes you forever as well?”

“Definitely. I’m going [home] for Christmas obviously to see my family, for sure,” Giovanni replied.

The choreographer continued: “Then when I’m back, we’re doing a [dance] tour with Rose.

“We’re going to be dancing again together, which is nice.”

But professional Giovanni will also be going solo as he performs in his own show after his Strictly success.

He revealed: “And then, I have my own show until July.”

In 2020, Giovanni announced he would be hitting the road with fellow dancer Anton Du Beke in their production Him & Me.

Speaking at a photoshoot ahead of the tour, Giovanni said to Anton: “You are my idol. I have wanted to do a show with you for so long now and I’m very, very happy that we can finally do it.”

In June 2021, the dates for the Him & Me tour were rescheduled to include a series of shows in July 2021 as well as in June and July 2022.

Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
