SEVEN years since the original series last aired, Gossip Girl will return with a 10 episode reboot.

The series followed the lives of privileged teenagers in New York as they navigate lies and drama.

When is the Gossip Girl reboot happening?

The Gossip Girl reboot was originally was due to become available on HBO Max in the autumn of 2020, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the reboot series will premiere on Thursday, July 8, exclusively on HBO Max.

Fans must have a paid subscription to HBO Max to view the series.

Who's in the cast of the Gossip Girl reboot?

Co-creator Josh Schwartz said in 2019 that the new series wouldn't focus on the old cast – so it's unlikely they'll feature.

Blake Lively, who played Serena van der Woodsen in the original series spoke about not returning to the reboot, telling E!: "Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it's hard work and I've got my babies, and I don't want to be away from them that much.

"But I've just learned in life you never say never."

Yet, Penn Badgley is not discounting appearing in the reboot altogether and told Entertainment Tonight: "I would love to contribute in a meaningful way to it and I guess it would just depend on a lot of things,'" Badgley explained.

"It would depend on how and why he's there," he continued, "and I don't know… like, is it even… yeah, I don't know."

The only confirmed original cast member returning to the reboot is Kristen Bell who was the iconic voice of Gossip Girl.

She will continue to narrate the series like the original.

What will it be about?

The plot is supposed to take place nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark.

According to Deadline, the synopsis is: "Nine years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.

"The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years."

The new episodes will continue to pull from both the novels and The CW series.

The show is also planning on drawing on more dark and adult content with intense sex scenes than its predecessor.

The reboot, despite still having a same the same narrator, will be from an entirely different perspective.
