Jesy made her UK solo debut on Friday night’s The Graham Norton Show where she performed her new single. The former Little Mix star took to the stage with her backing dancers to sing Bad Boyz, the track Jesy wrote with American rapper Nicki Minaj. However, some viewers were left distracted by the 30-year-old’s performance, with many questioning whether the pop star was lip-syncing.
After her performance, Jesy openly spoke with host Graham about leaving Little Mix and going solo.
When asked whether it felt “weird” performing on stage by herself, Jesy replied: “A little bit.
“But, where I’ve got the dancers I feel like I am still in a group.”
Graham went on to ask why her relationship with Little Mix “had gone a bit sour”.
“Are you still talking to any of them?” the host asked.
Jesy replied: “No, we are not talking anymore. But do you know what?
“I know it is sad but honestly, there is no bad blood from my side.
“I still love them to pieces and I wish them all the best.”
“I hope you get past it,” Graham continued. “Because to have shared that experience is such a special thing.”
“I loved my time in Little Mix,” the singer explained. “And we’ve got the most incredible memories together.
“We laughed so much. But I think it’s just one of them things where it just needs to take time.
“I still think they are so sick as a three. To me, they are still the sickest girl band in the world.”
Frustrated viewers took to social media following Jesy’s performance, with many quizzing the star on why she was “lip-syncing”.
Adam wrote: “Jesy Nelson lip-syncing for her life… I think we know the outcome.”
DJ asked: “Jesy Nelson lip-syncing on Graham Norton is bottom tier. Who lip-syncs on Graham Norton ffs!” (sic)
While April quizzed: “Jesy why you lip-syncing man?”(sic)
T.A said: “Imagine lip-syncing your first live performance.”
“Jesy Nelson on #GrahamNorton is absolutely awful. Why is she lip syncing?” Rachel raged.
“That lip-sync was not it,” Dean commented.
However, some of Jesy’s fans stepped in to defend the pop star with, Little B tweeting: “Don’t get so much negativity on Jesy Nelson on Graham Norton…. performance was good, so many mimes for years now why are people shocked… ” (sic)
Sharon pointed out: “Even though I wasn’t keen on the song, many artists who appear on #GrahamNorton mime. Surely Jesy has proved she can sing live whilst she was in #LittleMix?” (sic)
Defending the pop star, Allan wrote: “Everyone needs to chill out with the criticising Jesy Nelson performance on #GrahamNorton I’m pretty sure they decided to make it more about dancing. Dancing was superb.”
