Harvey threatens sex assault on Leanne in seriously dark Corrie scenes

Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) makes a terrifying return to Coronation Street, desperate to seek revenge on all those who betrayed him.

At the very top of that list is, of course, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), who – in spite of his demands – did the right thing and gave evidence against him in court.

Harvey was subsequently sentenced to prison, but he wasted little time in setting an appeal in motion, with Sabeen Habeeb (Zora Bishop) leading the case.

The appeal, however, fell through thanks to Toyah (Georgia Taylor), and when Harvey gets wind of this, he sets out to get revenge.

‘He’s under pressure in prison,’ actor Will Mellor told Metro.co.uk. ‘He has a lot of people after him. His appeal is messed up and he finds up it’s Toyah who caused it. It’s a Battersby again, coming to haunt him.

‘Harvey needs to get out. He’s the head of these drugs gangs and rivals are in prison so he needs out. He has a guy on the inside and he needs to get in a van to the hospital.’

One thing leads to another, and Harvey ends up escaping after the prison van is involved in a crash, and he wastes little time in setting off for the eponymous street – hellbent on vengeance.

But little does he know that there’s a literal storm brewing – one that will make his revenge plan all the more complicated.

‘He has come to finish them off, there’s no doubt in his mind,’ said Will, discussing Harvey’s motives in returning to the cobbles. ‘Leanne, Sharon and Toyah is also especially on his list.’

‘It goes wrong from the start, it does not go smoothly so he is wound up even more. He goes from 1 to 100 in a second. One thing he doesn’t like, he hates it “when birds get away from me”

‘He doesn’t like anyone escaping him – he sees it as a personal challenge. It’s his way or the end of it, with him taking everyone with him.’

Leanne is of course primarily in danger, and the two come face-to-face in a horrific showdown, that will seemingly see Harvey threaten to rape her.

‘Harvey has no fear whatsoever,’ added Will. ‘He’s willing to do whatever. What could he do to Leanne BEFORE he kills her too. That’s the threat.

‘She flinches every time he touches her face. Her fear is that he could strangle her, or rape her and he likes to play with her terror. That’s the narcissist he is, he enjoys it.

‘There are real moments we could really get physical and there’s a lot of it. It’s quite nasty and I was conscious as it is Coronation Street and we had to push the bar and we wanted it to not be tame for the audience but we have limits for the watershed. I think we did that.’
