Jules Hudson and Helen Skelton hosted Channel 5’s Summer On The Farm Live on Tuesday (June 15) evening. The pair are presenting the show live all this week from Cannon Hall Farm in Yorkshire. But, things went awry when Jules stumbled upon realising he was reading the wrong script from the auto-cue.

The presenters were chatting to chef Tim Bilton about a dish he’d whipped up for them using foraged ingredients.

“The proof is in the pudding,” Tim said, as he encouraged the duo to tuck into his nettle and mushroom dish.

The chef explained: “These mushrooms are like a chef’s dream Jules, they really are. If you find a patch of these they’ll grow back all of the time.”

Helen didn’t seem too sure about the food though as she commented on the inclusion of nettles, saying: “It’s an interesting texture though.”

“It’s quite velvety, isn’t it? And it’s quite fibrous as well,” Tim replied, with Helen adding: “I’ll take your word for it, Tim.”

But, things then took a turn when Jules attempted to move on to the next segment of the show.

He soon stumbled over the script he was reading from the auto-cue as he began: “Bless you Tim, thank you so much. Always a pleasure.

“Now, I can’t tell you how pleased I am to have you with us… oh. It uhh, we’ll…” Jules stumbled.

“You’ve got a mouth full of nettles,” Helen joked, laughing off her co-star’s blunder.

Jules replied: “I’ve got a mouth full of nettles and I’m reading the wrong stuff. Never mind it’s live.

“It just demonstrates that we are absolutely live,” Jules remarked.

While Jules composed himself, Helen continued with the show, saying: “You get stuck into the mushrooms and I’ll tell them what’s coming up.”

Despite the blunder, viewers seemed to still be enjoying the show with some taking to Twitter to praise Helen for her presenting skills.

One viewer wrote: “@channel5_tv #summeronthefarm @CannonHallFarm @HelenSkelton Hope you don’t mind me saying but you are awesome live!!! Wow.. You’ve so much energy it’s like you’re on fire!! So impressive can’t be easy being live but you make it look soooo easy!! Great show!!!”

“@HelenSkelton is brilliant on #summeronthefarm An absolute natural on live tv. Get her on a big primetime Saturday night show rather than the usual suspects @BBCOne @ITV” another fan commented.

“@HelenSkelton is a breath of fresh air on Summer on the farm. I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Loving the welly wanging” a third agreed.

Jules’ mishap with the auto-cue wasn’t the only blunder of the night though, as Helen confessed she’d also made an error live on air.

“I’ve got to apologise,” the presenter said, as she revealed she’d spilt some food down herself.

“Not to self – don’t wear white!” Helen exclaimed while pointing at her top.

Summer on the Farm airs weeknights at 8pm on Channel 5.
