Here's How Gwen Stefani Really Feels About Returning to 'The Voice' and Sharing the Limelight With Blake Shelton

Fans and coaches alike are starting to get excited about Season 17 of The Voice. There hasn’t even been time to mourn Adam Levine calling it quits on the show, because the prospect of watching Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton going head-to-head is just bound to be so much fun. Stefani thinks it will be fun, too, as she’s mentioned how she can’t wait to get back in that chair and compete with her “favorite human.” Although she knows it will all be up to the members, she chooses to make up her team for the season. The anticipation is building over how Team Blake and Team Gwen will share the screen.

Gwen Stefani was a coach on ‘The Voice’ before

Stefani has held her spot in the spinning, red chairs as a coach before. She joined The Voice in 2014 as a coach for its seventh season which is when she got to know her now-boyfriend Shelton. She came back again in season 9 and also in 2017 for the show’s 12th season. This fall, as season 17 airs, will be her 4th time on the show. Although Stefani has never had a contestant win she mentioned on her Instagram this week that she’s starting to get excited about beating Shelton this time.

When Levine announced that he would not be returning as a coach for The Voice this fall fans (and Blake Shelton) were really disappointed in the news of his departure. Shortly after he announced he’d be leaving the show though, we got the word about his replacement. Stefani will be taking back her red chair alongside coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Shelton.

Shelton has been on every season of The Voice since it began and although everyone will miss his on-screen bromance with Levine, fans are looking forward to what kind of antics he’ll kick up in competition with his girlfriend.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s relationship bloomed on ‘The Voice’

Yes, Shelton and Stefani knew each other musically before they were competing coaches on The Voice, but not very well. Their music styles were just so completely different that they worked in different circles and appealed to different audiences.

They started dating shortly after they met in 2015 on the show after Shelton’s divorce from Miranda Lambert was finalized. Now, Shelton and Stefani are four years into their relationship, and the couple says they are stronger and happier than ever.

It certainly doesn’t seem like Stefani is at all sad to be sharing some of the spotlight with her man on this season of The Voice. In fact, we bet the two will be sharing some more of their adorable PDA on screen. Rumors are even floating around about a live episode marriage proposal.

How does Gwen Stefani really feel about returning to ‘The Voice’?

The ever-positive Stefani revealed in an interview on The Talk that she is entirely thrilled to be returning to The Voice. Not only that, but she’s looking forward to some fun competition with her boyfriend. Although she has mentioned it was a bit of a shock to receive the invitation, she can’t wait for the opportunity.

“It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be exciting,” she noted on The Talk.  “I mean, Blake’s my best friend, so I get to hang out with him at work. I wanted to come back so bad. I mean, the show is so fun.”

We think it’s going to be fun too.

You can tune in to Season 17 of The Voice Mondays, on NBC.
