ITV Loose Women: Denise Welch on Prince Andrew clash over ‘disrespectful’ Diana remarks

Denise Welch has opened up on a meeting with Prince Andrew which left her shocked.

The Loose Women panellist revealed she had been chatting to the royal about Princess Diana but the conversation left her feel very upset.

She explained she was her ex-husband Tim Healey and 20 others at a royal gala due to her work for a charity called The Western Spirit and was sitting just seats away from Prince Andrew.

Recalling the meeting, Denise told the panel: “Myself and this cricketer, who I won’t name, had made a decision not to mention Princess Diana because she had only recently died.

“I have never met Diana but loved her so much and was mortified when she died, like a lot of people.

“Anyway, Prince Andrew was very keen to talk about her and he brought it up.”

Denise continued: “He started to say things that really, really upset, that were very to me disrespectful to somebody he shouldn’t have been sharing this information with.”

“What did you say?” Nadia Sawalha asked.

Denise, 61, replied: “Back in the day, I liked a vodka or two, and all I can say is he got up to leave, walked around to the top of the table, put his hand on my then-husband’s shoulder and said, ‘Rather you than me, sir.’”

The audience could be heard gasping as the panellist concluded her story.

“Because you told him how you felt?” Nadia probed.

Denise nodded: “I absolutely did tell him how I felt! I was very, very cross.”

Earlier this week on the ITV panel show, talk turned to a different royal as Nadia back Meghan Markle’s decision to cut off her “toxic” family.

Following reports the Duchess of Sussex has refused her father Thomas Markle access to his grandson Archie, Nadia spoke out in defence of the royal.

She told the panel: “It’s so hard this one, isn’t it?

“Because I’m thinking of the grandparents who love their grandchildren very much and a couple breaks up and they don’t allow them to see their grandchildren and that seems awful and cruel and wrong.”

But Nadia added she believes there are situations when maybe parents should cut off their family.

“Then you can think of another situation where maybe someone in your family has been toxic,” she continued.

“I mean, Meghan Markle’s father has sold all these stories on her and she’s probably feeling very vulnerable about that and probably doesn’t want her child to get to know him.”

Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV at 12.30pm.
