Jake Wood shares birthday tribute to wife after news he's quit EastEnders

Jake Wood has shared a sweet birthday tribute to his wife Alison, following new she has decided to quit EastEnders after 15 years on the BBC soap.

The actor, 48, is yet to address his decision to leave behind his role as Max Branning on social media and instead shared a post honouring his partner.

Posting a cute snap of himself and wife Alison together, Max wrote: ‘Happy birthday beautiful @alisonrwood46. I couldn’t imagine a life without you ❤️❤️.’

Max’s EastEnders co-star Lacey Turner (who plays Stacey Fowler) was seen leaving Alison birthday wishes, as was Natalie Cassidy (Sonia Fowler) and actor Ray Winstone.

Among the comments fans couldn’t resist quizzing Jake over leaving EastEnders, after it was confirmed his character Max is set to make an explosive exit from Albert Square after more than a decade.

‘dont leave eastenders atleast one more year😩 (sic),’ wrote one sad fan, while another posted: ‘Sorry to hear you are leaving Jake, will be missed on the show.’

One fan had only just heard the news and posted: ‘I’ve just heard you are leaving EE – nooooooo,’ as another commented: ‘Don’t leave you are one of the best actors in eastenders plz stay.’

Fans will be pleased to hear, however, that Jake’s character isn’t being killed off, so the door is open for him to make a return to EastEnders in the future.

Instead, soap bosses have teased that Max will bow out in a dramatic storyline at the end of Jake’s current contract.

Speaking about his exit, Jake has said in a statement: ‘I’ve had 15 wonderful years at EastEnders and have made some truly great friends.

‘ I’ll of course miss everyone there, but I’m grateful they left the door open for Max.’

He continued: ‘I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds.’

Jon Sen, EastEnders executive producer teased: ‘We have a big storyline for Max that starts in the coming weeks and we are all very excited to see that play out.’

Max has already been involved in some huge storylines over the years, including his affair with Stacey, his long-running feud with brother Jack (Scott Maslen), him being jailed over Lucy Beale’s death and his plan to destroy Albert Square on his release.

Currently onscreen, Max is at loggerheads with Ian Beale (Adam Wyatt) who has taken his money and ‘will be sorry’ if he doesn’t make sure Max is paid back.
