Jodie Turner-Smith Will Star in Netflix’s The Witcher Prequel

Jodie Turner-Smith is ready to reign over Netflix.

The star of 2019’s Queen & Slim will appear in an upcoming spin-off to the platform’s wildly popular fantasy series, The Witcher. Titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, the limited series will take place ages before the events in the Henry Cavill–starring drama, which is based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. Here’s what we know so far.

Jodie Turner-Smith will play a goddess-like warrior.

Per Deadline, the actress will assume the role of Éile, “an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.” If this means some high-intensity fight scenes with the actress are in our future, count us in.

This won’t be Turner-Smith’s first Netflix role. She previously appeared in the streamer’s Nightflyers, based on George R.R. Martin’s novella.

The show will focus on an elven backstory.

The prequel will take place 1,200 years prior to the events seen in The Witcher, Variety reported. Focusing on the backstory of the elven civilization before its demise, Blood Origin is slated to cover “the creation of the very first Witcher and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged to become one.”

We’re still waiting on a release date.

Details on the Blood Origin premiere are still unclear. However, fans of the original Witcher series are anticipating the show to return for a second season on Netflix later this year, which might mean a 2022 release for Blood Origin.

Also worth noting: Blood Origin will have only six episodes, as it’s a limited series.
