Liam Fox has revealed that testing positive for coronavirus meant he couldn’t go through with a storyline on Emmerdale.
The soap star, 50, has told OK! that him and his co-star wife Joanna Hudson-Fox caught the virus in January this year.
The couple made the revelation as they exclusively revealed how their first yer of marriage has been, since they exchanged vows in February 2020.
“It’s been a nightmare,” Liam joked. “No, it’s been alright, aside from us both getting the virus after Christmas.”
His new wife Joanna added: “It’s like we’ve had the longest honeymoon ever! But getting Covid was like, “Right, the honeymoon period really is over now!”
Liam – who has played Emmerdale's Dan Spencer since 2011 – went on to explain how coming down with the illness meant he wasn’t able to go ahead with a planned storyline on the ITV soap.
“I missed out on a storyline, so I haven’t been in work since November,” he revealed. “But in fairness I’m one of those characters that’s busy for short periods then used sparingly.
“I’m happy to fade into the background from time to time,” he admitted.
Actor Liam described how Joanna [who he sweetly calls Jojo] suffered worse than he did when it came to Covid symptoms.
“Jojo was worse than me,” he said. “I was meant to be in work and I had a headache and sore throat, so I got a test.”
Joanna explained that she was unsure whether she she experienced more severe symptoms as she also suffers from a condition called Myasthenia Gravis, which causes muscle weakness.
“I don’t know,” she replied when we asked her. “I feel lucky. I think the apprehension was almost worse.”
“When you know you have it, the thought of how bad it’s going to get is frightening,” she confessed. “Then the fatigue kicked in and that was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.”
With plenty of time to get life planning during lockdown, Liam and Joanna also revealed to OK! that they were planning to foster kids.
Liam is already father to Jemma, 30, and Ben 21, from his previous marriage to actress Nicole Barber-Lane.

“We’ve talked about fostering,” he said. “I have mates who have fostered 130 kids over 20 years. We have the space to do it here now so we’re going to talk about it more.”
Sadly, as well as suffering with Covid during lockdown, Liam lost his dad to pneumonia in February.
