Major development in Ben and Phil story in EastEnders

The following article contains spoilers for this week’s EastEnders episodes, which have NOT yet aired on TV, but can now be viewed on BBC iPlayer in the form of a boxset.

Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) has been incredibly worried about Ben (Max Bowden) as of late, knowing that there is something that his son is not telling him.

Ben, as viewers know, was raped by Lewis Butler (Aidan O’Callaghan) earlier this year in harrowing scenes. He later opened up to Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), who has been determined to support him every step of the way.

Phil, however, has no clue about what it is that’s going on with Ben, but he finds out this week, in episodes now available on iPlayer.

Rocky (Brian Conley) gets fed up of how Ben is treating Kathy, and thus he snaps at Ben, delivering some home truths. The situation soon gets out of hand, and Ben goes to punch Rocky! Kathy, however, jumps in to protect Rocky and Ben winds up accidentally punching her instead.

Ben, feeling guilty over what happened, subsequently stays with Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick), and later takes drugs, after kissing an old pal named James.

Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol) express his concerns about Ben’s wellbeing, and when he realises he’s high, he insists on taking him back to the Panesar household to get checked over by Ash (Gurlaine Kaur Garcha).

Ben, however, refuses their help, revealing that he killed Jags (Amar Adatia), confirming that it was he who withdrew the protection in prison. Kheerat sees red and attempts to strangle Ben, forcing Suki (Balvinder Sopal) to reveal that she is the reason why Jags was in prison in the first place.

Ben is taken aback to Kathy’s, and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) tells both Kath and Phil that their son admitted to Jags’ death.

Phil feels no sympathy for his son, telling Kathy that he’s finished with him. Kathy, however, decides that he needs to know the truth, and thus tells Phil that Ben was raped.

With EastEnders’ typical broadcast schedule disrupted by sport this summer, the decision was made to allow audiences the opportunity to watch episodes of the BBC One soap online ahead of broadcast.

The soap will continue to drop episodes on iPlayer each and every Monday until mid-August

These episodes will still air on BBC One and Two later this week. And, whether you’re bingeing or watching on the telly, it’s a week in Walford that’s not to be missed.

This week’s EastEnders is now streaming on BBC iPlayer.
