Scary Spice Mel B breathed a huge sigh of relief while appearing on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel on Saturday night, coming close to giving the wrong answer to a question about the Spice Girls.
The new BBC gameshow, which is hosted by the comedian, sees three participants join together in a bid to win a huge sum of money, receiving help from several celebrity ‘experts’, who are sitting around a spinning wheel.
During the first episode of the new series on Saturday November 28, contestant Leome was luckily matched with Mel B when faced with a question about the Spice Girls.
The question was: ‘Who sings the first line in the 1996 UK number 1 single ‘2 Become 1,’ with four possible answers given: ‘Mel C, Emma, Geri or Victoria’.
At first, Mel B seemed absolutely sure she knew the answer to the question, stating emphatically that it was Mel C, aka Sporty Spice.
‘So we’ve all got pretty distinctive voices. Emma’s voice is quite high and kind of soothing, Victoria’s is a little bit low, Geri’s is even lower than Victoria’s, Mel C’s a little bit high, similar to Emma’s, but more distinctive,’ she said.
‘So we did have a pattern when we used to write our music together. So usually it would always be typically either Mel C or Emma that would start off the song. So it’s definitely Mel C. 100 per cent.’
However, a second later, a seed of doubt was planted in Mel B’s head.
‘I hope it is, is it? Hold on a minute, hold on a minute,’ she said, as Michael remarked: ‘Oh no, she’s having a panic.’
Mel B then began to wonder if it was Emma who sang the first line of the song, as Leome initially guessed.
‘I’m now questioning myself. You see, Mel C and Emma do have a similar… oh my… why can’t I remember that now? I’m not joking. I should know this,’ she said.
However, in the end, she decided to go with her instinct, putting Mel C forward as her suggestion, which Leome chose to run with.
Fortunately for him, the answer turned out to be correct, helping him add £10,000 to the prize pot.
‘Don’t doubt yourself! My gosh!’ Mel B said when the answer was announced.
Just goes to show how far gut instinct can take you!
In an absolutely incredible turn of events, Leome ended up winning a whopping £76,000 at the end of the show.
Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel returns next Saturday night at 8.30pm on BBC One.
