How did no one hear Maqbool shoot Bauji?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from the Mirzapur season 2 finale

Season two’s finale opened with Bauji Tripathi’s (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) getting his comeuppance as his past misdeeds finally caught up with him.

The previously loyal Tripathi henchman Maqbool Khan (Shaji Choudhary) exacting his revenge of Bauji for the murders of his family at the hands of his employers.

Maqbool brazenly walked into the Tripathis’ living room with an automatic gun and proceeded to fire it at Bauji.

However, he stopped short after his gun attracted the attention of Beena Tripathi (Rasika Dugal), who was seen walking down the stairs to see what was happening.

When she realised Maqbool was going to execute Bauji, she asked if she could be the one do it.

He willingly obliged with the former Tripathi muscle realising the pain Beena had endured at the hands of Bauji was perhaps even more painful than his own and possibly more personal.

Bauji had forced Beena to sleep with him or risk her affair being exposed, putting her in a vulnerable position.

Throughout Mirzapur, Been has been biding her time and manipulating the men her life until the right moment.

The opportunity finally came and she chose to kill Bauji with a meat cleaver no less while Maqbool left her to it.

Later, it appeared she had got away with the crime with her husband Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) believing Maqbool had murdered his father.

However, it seems highly suspicious not one of the Tripathi guards bothered to investigate the gunshot Maqbool fired.

Given the whole compound would be crawling with protection, it seems very strange not one of them would have walked in.

Perhaps the only real explanation can be they thought Maqbool was already inside and keeping the family safe.

Another explanation may be, they may have presumed as it was single gunshot it may have been a mistake and accidentally gone off.

Nonetheless, this is unlikely to have explained Bauji’s cries of pain as he was tortured and murdered slowly by Beena.

Surely, one of the guards would have come in and just check in on the family?

Actor Choudhary has spoken about how he was initially “skeptical” about taking on the role of Maqbool in the show and simply being a henchman.

But the star was eventually convinced the character was far from one-note and would evolve over time.

Season two showed how he changed his allegiances his reasons for working for the Tripathis.

He told the IBTimes: “The emotional side is not revealed. When we come to know about the mother you see a different reason why Maqbool is loyal towards the Tripathi family. “He is loyal out of debt because when his mother was bedridden, it was the Tripathi family which took care of the finances.

“So Maqbool was loyal not out of love but for this debt he had to repay.”
