Outlander season six is just four short months away, and it looks set to be the darkest yet for the Starz series. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth novel, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, season six will introduce fans to the Christie family, with Malva Christie (played by Jessica Reynolds) taking centre stage. However, if the season stays true to the novel, Malva could meet a shocking end.

Will Malva Christie die in season 6?

For Outlander book fans, the sixth novel is considered the darkest in the ever-growing saga.

This is because of the introduction to the Christie family who arrive in Fraser’s Ridge at the start of the story.

The three Christies have already been confirmed to be appearing in season six, and it looks as though they will feature heavily.

Made up of Thomas (Mark Lewis Jones), Allan (Alexander Vlahos), and Malva, the three initially integrate themselves into the small town.

Malva in particular takes to her new life well, working with Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) in her workshop.

However, in a shocking twist, Malva is murdered, and the town first points its fingers at Claire.

While she is eventually dropped of all charges, the truth is even more disturbing.

It is revealed that Malva was pregnant and that she was killed by her brother Allan.

He did this out of shame and disgust because he was the father of her child.

The show has never ventured into territory like this before, so some book readers believe the series will avoid the topic.

However, the strongest evidence comes from the star herself, with Reynolds posting a telling snap on Instagram.

The star shared a picture dressed as Malva behind the scenes of season six, yet, it was her caption that suggested she would only appear for a single season.

Reynolds wrote: “And we’re wrapped!!! I’ll miss you my Malva, your wee troubled soul.”

Saying she will “miss” Malva implies she won’t be returning to the character, again suggesting the season will closely follow the book.

The show has deviated from the books before, though by and large it has always stayed true to the source material.

While fans will have to wait and see if Malva will actually die in season six, all signs seem to suggest it will happen.

One reason for this is because author Gabaldon has always worked so closely with the development of the show.

She has helped the series retain a level of authenticity to the source material, regularly teasing the future of the series.

In fact, Gabaldon finally revealed the US release date of season six after much anticipation.

Coming March 6, 2022, season six will have just eight episodes this time around.

That is because season seven will begin development immediately after, with an extra-long season consisting of 16 episodes.

Outlander season six will premiere on Sunday, March 6, 2022, on Starz in the USA and Starzplay in the UK.
