Sam Heughan is best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in Starz’s Outlander, however, it looks as though that could be coming to an end. Ahead of the release of season six, the actor has landed a major new role in a Channel Four crime thriller.
The fan-favourite will be starring in an all-new thriller with a star-studded cast which boasts of James Nesbitt, Imogen King and Richard E. Grant.
Sam is set to play a character called Ryan, the godfather of a dead girl Christina (Imogen King).
She will also be the daughter of veteran police detective Danny Frater (James Nesbitt) who will receive the shock of his life.
According to the dailyrecord.co.uk, Danny will be called to the mortuary to do a routine ID but will be mortified to find out the corpse is his daughter.

Although the post-mortem determines she took her own life, Danny won’t accept it and suspects something else has happened.
He does his own investigation and meets up with the people who were close to her while she was living.
This includes her partner Nicola, her best friend Maia, her business partner Jaisal, godfather Ryan, mentor Harry and her mother Susannah, the story truly unfolds.
Alongside the actors previously mentioned, Joely Richardson, Ben Miller, Niamh Algar, Antonia Thomas, and Sacha Dhawan are also lined up to star in the series.
Sam took to Instagram to announce his new role and wrote: “Excited to be part of this stellar cast! What a production! @Channel4.”
The new series currently has the working title ‘Suspect’ and is set to be an eight-part thriller series.
Speaking on his new role James disclosed: “Each episode of Suspect is an intensely theatrical double-hander, a psychological battle of wits between Danny and another character who may know something about his daughter’s untimely death.”
He added: “I really can’t wait to lock horns with my fellow cast members and to lead this incredible array of acting talent.”
Fans took to Sam’s Instagram comments to share their excitement for him. Vicki wrote: “Congrats Sam! I’m so excited to see you in a British crime tv-series and what a fab cast.”
Zeljka commented: “Well done Sam, so proud of you, it really is an amazing cast and you’ve earned it.”
Another fan CJ posted: “Fantastic news, Mr Sam! So happy for you! Hooray, so pleased what an amazing cast.”
Whilst Clara wrote: “Your debut as a director, how wonderful, congrats.”
Sam’s Outlander co-stars also congratulated the actor, including Richard Rankin who plays Roger McKenzie. He commented: “Yes mate!”
Caitriona Balfe who plays his on-screen wife Claire Fraser was also thrilled for him and wrote: “Whooohooo congratulations!!!!”
A release date for Suspect is yet to be announced, however, express.co.uk will be updated with new information.
Thankfully for fans production for Outlander season 6 wrapped up in May and has been confirmed for a seventh season.
