Earlier this year, Louise Minchin announced she would be stepping down from her role on BBC Breakfast after 20 years. It’s not yet known when Louise will say goodbye to co-host Dan Walker but could BBC’s Sally Nugent, who has temporarily replaced Louise in the past, take on her role?
Two documentaries Sally presented have received an NTA nomination.
Marcus Rashford: Feeding Britain’s Children and Rob Burrow: My Year with MND have been shortlisted in the Authored Documentary category.
They go up against Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, Katie Price: Harvey and Me and Ronan Kemp: Our Silent Emergency.
Discussing the nominations, Sally said: “It has been a privilege to follow both Rob and Marcus’ inspirational journeys and to cover two incredibly important subject matters in these documentaries.

“To be nominated twice for such a prestigious award means the world to myself and the BBC Breakfast and Sport teams.”
Richard Frediani, BBC Breakfast Editor said: “BBC Breakfast has closely followed Marcus Rashford’s quest to end child food poverty and Rob Burrow’s mission to raise awareness of MND throughout 2020 and beyond, so it was the next natural step to explore their remarkable stories in more depth.
“I am absolutely delighted to receive two NTA nominations and I’m incredibly proud of the team behind the films.”
The final round of voting is now open and votes must be in by 12pm on Thursday 9 September.
Meanwhile, Sally is not the current favourite to take over from Louise with bookmakers, however she remains a contender.
Ladbrokes have tipped Emma Barnett as the presenter to step into her shoes at 6/4.
Sally is close behind at 5/2 while Charlene White and Ranvir Singh follow at 3/1 and 5/1 respectively.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Emma Barnett continues to head the betting to replace Louise Minchin but the latest odds suggest Sally Nugent is also a likely contender.

“Elsewhere, it looks like it’ll take something pretty spectacular for BBC chiefs to opt for Piers Morgan, who is as big as 20/1 for the role.”
BBC Breakfast viewers have been keen for Sally to take on Louise’s role ever since her departure was announced.
One noted: “@BBCBreakfast let’s hope Sally Can take over from Louise. She’s fab and has great chemistry with Dan as well as both of their sporting and all-round knowledge There, that’s my request.”
“@BBCBreakfast I hope Sally Nugent is on the helm when Louise leaves. She is an angel,” a second tweeted.

Another shared: “OMG, I’ve just heard the news, I’m devastated, both of you are the perfect presenters in my opinion. Big shoes to fill but I’m sure Nina or Sally could slot in perfectly. Anyway, all the best Louise and thank you.”
“@BBCBreakfast I hope Sally takes over the helm when Louise leaves,” a fourth added.
Someone else said: “I hope Sally Nugent takes over, she’s really nice and empathic like Louise. She and Dan have a lot in common and will gel well.”
BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One daily at 6am.
