Spoilers: Who ordered the brutal attack on Phil Mitchell in EastEnders?

You’d imagine legendary EastEnders hard man Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) to be king of the wing in prison, such is his fearsome reputation. But in tonight’s episode there were hints that maybe he’s having a difficult time behind bars.

Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Sam (Kim Medcalf) came to visit him – with Sam tagging along much to the annoyance of Kat.

As Sam excitedly relayed her big idea for a business deal to her brother, Kat was more concerned about Phil’s well-being. She noticed that he was looking warily at a couple of his fellow prisoners who were sitting nearby, and on more than one occasion Phil seemed to wince in pain – which he blamed on a hard prison mattress playing havoc with his back.

Phil was putting on a brave front for Kat, but while she was away from the table at the drinks machine he admitted to Sam that ‘Prison’s a young man’s game.’

Sam isn’t ready to see any sign of weakness in her brother and reminded him, ‘You’re Phil Mitchell and you run Walford.’ This was partly so he would agree to her business plan and it worked, but Kat was looking on uneasily, concerned that he’s having a tougher time behind bars than he cares to admit.

Have recent run-ins with Jonah Tyler (Mark Mooney) led to dangerous repercussions for Phil inside? And is Phil in serious danger?
