NETFLIX original film Stowaway saw four people on a spaceship heading to Mars with depleting resources while staring down the barrel of some pretty tough decisions.
The streaming service first acquired the rights to the film in late 2020, and premiered the flick on Thursday, April 22.
Who dies in Netflix's space thriller?
Though viewers are spared having to actually watch Anna Kendrick's character die in front of us, we do watch her realise she is resigned to defeat.
She takes a seat to stare out at space while she dies of space radiation, watching the retreating light of the solar flare.
Eventually, her character leaves the oxygen tank on top of the ship, and presumably, another member of the crew will be able to grab the tank after the storm passes, meaning that the three people left on the ship will survive.
What happens at the end of Stowaway?
After Daniel Dae Kim tries to convince Michael to kill himself, both him and Anna Kendrick decide to try to retrieve the extra oxygen that is hovering above the ship. To do this, the duo are forced to climb up some thin cables, risking the possibility of flying away into space.
Though Anna Kendrick succeeds in returning to the ship with an oxygen tank in tow, she opts not to risk going inside in fear of exposing her fellow crew members to the risk posed by the solar storm.
In what is one of the film's more powerful moments, Anna opts to say her goodbyes via a nod through the window to Toni Colette's character.
The film does not explain why the pair do not communicate through radio like they had been when Anna first left the spacecraft for the oxygen.
Is there a plot twist?
The film does not boast any kind of dramatic twist at the end, it's very much a case of what you see is what you get with Stowaway.
There is no saving grace for Kendrick's character, no shining armour to save her at the end of the film and restore order.
The final scene of the film depicts the retreating light of the solar storm as Anna Kendrick’s suit is torn to shreds, while she is clawing at her last few chances of oxygen.
