The Masked Singer’s remaining celebrities hidden behind wild disguises will battle it out on ITV tonight. Two contestants have already been unmasked, and judges Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan will have to decipher the latest clues before a third competitor is eliminated. However, ahead of tonight’s instalment airing, fans are convinced they know who is disguised as Doughnuts.

Doughnuts will return to the stage tonight for the ITV show’s special Movie Night episode.

While some fans have been left clueless as to who’s behind the mask, others are adamant a former England footballer is behind the ridiculous costume.

Many BBC viewers are convinced former Premier League player Michael Owen is Doughnuts.

Could they be correct – or are they barking up the wrong tree completely? has three clues fans which hint Doughnuts could indeed be 42-year-old Owen.

Firstly, there have been many jockey references and the former footballer is now a racehorse breeder who regularly rides in his spare time.

There have been many comments about the character’s speed on the show so far – and Owen was known for being particularly quick on the pitch.

References to crisps have also been made and the sports star was once part of a famous marketing campaign with Walkers.

Fans have taken to Twitter saying they thought the videotape of Doughnuts sounded strikingly similar to Owen’s Chesire accent.

Birdy commented: “Can’t believe I’m now going to have to watch the masked singer every week just to see if I’m right about Doughnut being Michael Owen.”

James added: “If Doughnuts on #TheMaskedSingerUK isn’t Michael Owen, I’ll be amazed.”

Mike Weaver remarked: “Doughnuts’ voice was unmistakably Michael Owen #MaskedSinger.”

Ciara said: “Doughnuts sounds exactly like Michael Owen #MaskedSingerUK.”

Uberkinky’s body language expert Ruby Payne has also analysed the celebrities’ movements and believes Doughnuts could be the former striker.

Doughnuts took to the stage last weekend to perform a rendition of Eye of the Tiger.

After analysing their movements and behaviour, Ruby claimed: “Doughnuts’ performance of Eye of the Tiger by Survivor was certainly entertaining.

“We know for sure that they have a Liverpool twang, but sorry Doughnuts, you’re not a professional singer or dancer.

“The dance moves are very much the side-to-side tap of a dad at a wedding.

“But Doughnuts is certainly a performer with plenty of confidence – you can see by their gestures and attempts to get the audience involved.”

In tonight’s instalment Doughnuts, Firework, Lionfish, Mushroom and Robobunny will all face each other in a bid to secure a spot in the competition.

Snow Leopard and Chandelier have already been identified as Loose Women star Gloria Hunniford and singer Heather Small respectively.

The Masked Singer will return to ITV tonight (January 8) at 7pm.
